Following the discovery of Tiberium and Nod's harvesting efforts, it was discovered Tiberium was highly toxic and even fatal to humans. Tiberium poisoning would result from immediate exposure, and excessive exposure to Tiberium would result in death, but not for some. Crystals would appear on the skin, and those possessing them would be transformed into Tiberium mutants, near supersoldiers. With the dawning of the Tiberium Refinery came about the Harvester, a wheeled vehicle capable of braving the harsh Tiberium fields, collecting the substance, and bringing it back to the Refinery for processing.
