Description

Nopony knows where it came from. If we did, maybe all of this could have gone away without all this suffering. The most we know about it is that it acts like some sort of virus, and that there's at least three main stages to the "infection". We have found no cure, though we have been trying relentlessly to find one among everything else we're doing.

Pinkie Pie - Late Stage(?)
Pinkie Pie was the first pony we know who had the disease. She most likely got it from somepony else, whether it was simply spread by a pony who had it, or she had been targeted to be the first carrier. I wish we could ask her.

Pinkie's first two stages were hidden pretty well, she had told her friends that she had gotten sick and needed to quarantine herself. But after a while, things went quiet. Sugarcube Corner was closed longer than usual, but as the rest of the mane 6 started to get concerned, they received an invitation. Pinkie had invited them over to help her!

The mane 6 arrived right when the invitation said, but Sugarcube Corner was still closed. As they entered, the building was dark, and then, the lights flicked on. With a "Surprise!" Pinkie revealed herself, along with a large batch of odd pastries. Her friends were shocked at the sight. Pinkie's eyes were completely dark, save for two pin prick pupils staring back at them. Upon further inspection, her colors were dulled, and her cutie mark was replaced with large black splotches.

While the rest of the mane 6 were in shock, Rainbow was the first one to crack. She chocked the whole thing up to a prank, even complementing Pinkie's outfit. She wore an apron with a few patches attached resembling cutie marks, along with her adorning a tiny unicorn horn and a small pair of wings. Dash grabbed one of Pinkies "Cupcakes" she had pushed on them to try. The smell was one thing Dash could brush off, but after taking a bite, she spit it out. It was terrible, a mix of sweet and something horrid she had never tasted before. She inspected the pastry further, and now with a bite taken out of it, she could see its horrible insides.

Dash threw it to the floor, utterly shocked by its contents. Pinkie responded sadly, disappointed that this batch of cupcakes wasn't up to their standard, but enthusiastic that they could help her make them better this time. As the rest of her friends pleaded with Pinkie to stop her charade, Twilight inspected the baked good, only to find out that all this was, in fact, real.

Twilight approached Pinkie cautiously, trying to hide her immense fear. She asked Pinkie to come with them, but she refused, upset that none of them enjoyed the party she threw for them. It quickly turned into a struggle, with Twilight ordering her friends to restrain Pinkie. Pinkie though, was always hard to catch. With a throw of a knife catching them off guard, Pinkie disappeared.

The Cake family was also gone, with only small remnants being left of them.

Rainbow Dash - Middle Stage(?)
Rainbow Dash was the second one to be infected, we presume she caught it from Pinkie Pie.

After the devastating incident, the rest of the mane 6 spent their own time recovering, while also trying to find Pinkie. Rainbow Dash was particularly despondent and distant, but her friends let her be. She had experienced the worst of Pinkie's "party" after all.

The next time anypony saw her, it was at Sweet Apple Acres. Applejack saw Big Mac and Rainbow Dash outside, out way later than they had any right to be. She couldn't tell what was happening, but Big Mac wasn't standing. With no hesitation, Applejack was confronted her, farm tools in hoof. Rainbow's eyes were hidden behind sunglasses, but she saw red on her hooves and the black on her flank. Applejack attacked, but only managed to slash Dash's shoulder. Rainbow fled to the sky, and that was the last time anypony has seen her.

Applejack - Early Stage(?)
I think Applejack might have early signs of the disease, but she won't let me get close enough to investigate.

After the cakes' murders, Applejack became increasingly protective of her own family. Pinkie Pie knew where she lived, and could strike at any moment.

After Rainbow's attack, Big Mac was in a rough state, especially since Applejack won't let any doctors into the farm. Big Mac said he heard Rainbow muttering something about his coat color, that it was the perfect shade of red to start with, before he collapsed. Applejack told Twilight what had happened via letter, but when she and the others arrived to check on her, Applejack aggressively declined their help.

Rarity - Healthy(?)
Rarity has been taking this as well as she can. She has been sewing a lot more than usual, saying that it helps relieve her worries. I've noticed she's been wearing the same cloak around.

Fluttershy - Healthy(?)
Fluttershy has been taking all this pretty hard. I don't blame her. She's said that she's been feeling a special connection to her butterflies, that spending time and taking care of them help her cope. I'm glad she's found an outlet.

Twilight Sparkle - Healthy(?)
There have been disappearances of ponies in Ponyville, something that has never happened in this capacity. Not just that, but signs of the disease have been reported on other ponies. AND not just that, but it's been appearing outside of Ponyville as well! I've been working with the princesses to try and spread word of the disease as fast as possible, and to identify and contain the ponies that harbor it. We've hardly even been able to study the disease itself, let alone find a cure, but we're working as fast as we can. I'm also trying to track down Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash, while trying to keep other ponies safe in case they attack. I have to find a way to save them... and keep everypony else safe. I have to....

Jumping on this trend cause WHY THE HELL NOT

This idea came to me where the virus is a mind virus, and turns those infected into their grimdark versions, and I was like, well I HAVE to make this now. This is just gonna be a one-off, I already have two mlp universes/aus to add another one LOL. Maybe I'll make a companion piece if people are interested but I don't have too many other ideas for this atm. Each pony here has a certain grimdark story/trope associated with them, adapted to fit in this au's setting! I'm curious to see if anyone can spot them all
Oh yeah, and another round of mane 6 redesigns cause why not! I just picked colors from memory and did whatever I wanted LOL. I also messed around with my style a bit to have fun with this drawing ^^

Oh, and poor Twilight, she doesn't actually understand how the disease works. There's four stages, and it doesn't spread like a zombie virus or a common cold does.
