Description How still it was!--
That dusky eve of fragile glass.
I wandered as a drifter does,
Thus roving through the mountain pass.
Quiescent,
Transcendent,
My reverie was unsurpassed.

The road went 'round
Among the stone-faced monoliths;
The flakes of snow they drifted down,
As they performed a silent riff.
Placidity!
Sublimity!
A haze o'er all, a thing of myth!

And as I traipsed,
On through the ever deep'ning snow,
I then recalled our last embrace,
She said, "I'll never let you go."
Quietude.
Beatitude.
Her dulcet touch--so long ago!

Then came a sound,
A somber and pacific hum.
Her slender arms around me tightly wound,
Maternal arms that warmed me some--
Reverential,
Providential.
She knew for sure I would succumb.

'Twas not a dream!
For there she stood, as bold as brass--
The one I'd known fore'er it seemed.
I said her name, as sunlight passed,
"Calamity
Despondency,
You have returned to me at last."
