Description
This Rail gun was inspired by going back to and seeing old models. This was after seeignt the Halo tv show and seeing a rail gun.The inspiration was seeing barrels lined with magnetic rings that shoot down a shit in the show.
After some changes and reworks of the shapes and key parts of the barrel, I created this model.
This was to have an industrial style to the design and to be very Sharpe and square.
The design was to have many parts to it from the barrel, scope, batteries, and technical aspects.
The added complex and mechanical parts would make the design far more interesting and detailed.
The main interesting feature of the weapon is the barrel with its rings and layers.
The barrel was ringed with over 30 rings each detailed within the design and armour offering protection.
The model shows off the best aspects without hiding the best parts.
The scope has multiple parts to make the design interesting, unique and complex.
The scope has a metal hand holder that extends over the gun and scope which makes the design more complex.
The body has features to make it stand out and wires with pipes in the body and barrel to add realism.
The creation of this model was a fun experience and deciding what parts didn't work, gave me the chance to try something new and develop my skills.
The design feels human and only a bit more futuristic than the current design, still with a level of realism.
I followed the pipeline workflow, and modelling techniques. To maximise the creation of each part and to not waste polys or time on the project.
The part of the design I'm very impressed with and want to show off is the barrel and layered sections.
This huge jump in my 3D modelling skills and my understanding of creating and making 3D models has given me the confidence to look at jobs in modelling.
The Polly count is about 1.100.000 polys but to make the design more game-ready the turbo smooth can be removed and reduced the Polly count to 700.000, this would not affect the design appearance and still look smooth and sleek. Every single part of the design has turbo smooth but this was also used to push my PC specs to their max so in-game assets like this would not have every section so detailed or Polly heavy and would use little as possible.
The texturing is 3DS MAX internal texture packs and are basic metals and plastics. This is to help show the design in more detail and to give it more depth and to show its unique parts from armour and sections.
Overall this design used game pipelines and follows all the rules for creating 3D assets and Vehicles and can be edited for less intensive use on PC specs.
