Description
So what happens when Billy lives within this crime ridden, Drug infested, car stealing, crack abusing scum driven neighborhood. He adapts. He doesn't fall into a life of crime but he does learn to evolve with it. It's also helps to replace a snot nosed, wimpy, little sweater wearing kid with the sarcastic, hard ass, older teenager whose learned a couple of maneuvers with his fist and feet. His life as a mortal coupled with the life of being the Mystical Mr. Marvel and having to deal with pretty much saving the whole fucking world has caused him to see more f...d up shit sometimes than he can handle. The struggle of being a super human mystical big guy and a poor young kid in a terrible neighborhood may sometimes wear on him but he can still see how things can be better. All he has to do is say one word. That's me but what do you think?tools> pscs4

I like the [Frank Miller-esque] reality of an orphan boy living in the inner-city. It sets him apart from a Superman or even Batman. It can almost be a marriage of the two. Superman's moral compass with batman's black and white sense of justice.Β

I like the innocent version of Bill to be honest, but yours is very realistic which I find gives your version a lot of personality and something that gives his character depth (which I love). I love your insight of these classic characters and your style is amazing!

Why does every superhero have to be dark and gritty? I think the whole point of Captain Marvel is his childlike innocence. He looks like an adult; but he is a child because that's why they gave him all those superpowers: because a little child doesn't turn into a mad killer like Black Adam, no matter how much power you give him.

Β Well my version is placing him in the real world and aging him a little. Then showing how the environment around him altered not only his personalty but his dress. It's this way not because everyone decided on going dark in comics, cartoons, tv and movies though. That wouldn't be any fun would it.

Awesome contrast between young and old. Also perfect characterizing between super and not super. The stylizing between Billy and the Captain is captured perfectly! Line work, color and bodywork is fantastic! Keep em comin!

This picture of Billy is like......adorable. <3333 and so cute and omg so wrongly sexy but it just is.

Another character that's always left me cold, but something in Captain Marvel's face immediately grabbed me. The expression is grim without being repressed. He looks like he's pondering how to handle some super heroic challenge, but I think it's the age of his face that really got me. Marvel's typically drawn looking like he's in his early 20s and still kind of baby-faced. Instead, you've made him looks experienced, kind of like an older soldier. Not that he's a warfighter per se, but he's got that same look of serious intent as opposed to the "Big Red Cheese." He's a magical being from an eternal line of wizards and such (I don't remember the exact details of his origin, but I think I'm close) so I guess he could look like physical perfection forever, but this Captain Marvel looks like he could swap crime fighting stories with Batman and not feel like a goofball.
I've got it: This Captain Marvel looks like the kind of hero who's smacked Darkseid around and walked away with victory in hand.

I'm in love with Captain Marvel. Billy is such a sweet kid, and the way he's managed to be the nicest person in the DCU despite the tragedy he calls life has always been a mystery to me; and makes me love him more

I demand this be a movie adapation. I love this. This takes the paradigm of Super-Man's powers, but gives it valid reason to exist. It has far more facets and significantly more moral depth.

I like ur intepretation. As to what others said, I think it would be fine for billy to be tough on the outside but kind and gentle on the inside (as cheesy as that sounds). That wud be a lot more interesting than the generic naive billy thats often been portrayed in animation.

I love you're artwork. But that's not Captain Marvel that's Shazzam

Since Marvel own the rights to the name Dc doesn't use it but his name is still Captain Marvel I believe. "Shazam" is the Wizards name that Billy Batson calls to turn into Captain Marvel though. Shazam is what most people commonly mistake as the actual name of the guy. I'm guilty of that myself.

I generally like all your interpretations of these characters, I like this one but, I feel like Billy Batson and Captain Marvel are THE boyscout of the JLA, forget Big Blue, this guy is supposed to be the wide eyed idealist he was to genuinely save every body and believes in the good of everyone. So even if he has adapted to the the crapsack world he lives in, I think it would be important to set the distinction that he will never become it. I would think of him as a really cool headed friendly kid, who understand why people do bad stuff and instead of punishing them like some heroes do, he wants to save them. He is definitely not weak, he should be very confident almost paralleling his Cpt Marvel personality. Always carrying a smile and determination on his face regardless what life hits him with he will always pretend to be ok for the sake of his friends.
