I'm redoing my refs because I got sick of the old ones. Chibi refs will stay, unless like Rana I've made her a much more major character, in which case she's getting her own.

Amelia Fitzgerald moved to New Gotham with her family in her late teens. It was here she met her best friend for her last few years of college, named Ed. Amelia and Ed got along really well, but Amelia took a foreign exchange program for a year and left the city. Ed at this point got into crime, and became a minor supervillain in the area. By the time Amelia got back, she really wanted to be a good person, and attempted to become "The Programmer", a hero who fought the local crime. Eventually Amelia realized she kept screwing everything up, and at this point discovered her friend Ed was one of the criminals she was fighting against. Amelia eventually got into trouble with the law, and was comforted by Ed assuring her that a lot of the system is bullshit, and honestly, the cops suck here. So Amelia dropped her heroic attitude and decided to do what she wanted instead, an evil robin hood of sorts, trying to take down rich and powerful, but by like, actually being a bad person herself. So she took up the name "Lost Signal", and went full pyschopathic. All the meanwhile, she's been studying for her degree in genetics, specifically on a particular strain in humans referred to as "the metagene" that allows the owner to have fantastical powers and abilities. Amelia meets a few other students at her university, one who has an active metagene, and one who's isn't yet, but he's willing to let her give it a go. These students are Rana, and Harold, who later join the squad as Cyanide and Antivirus. Amelia eventually learns that her old friend Ed has a metagene too, and as he's unwilling to comply, she builds a collar to force him to do what she wants. Not sure quite where her story is gonna go from there, but here we are right now. Later, she meets Kitty on the roof and talks her down from suicide by convincing her that hurting those who hurt her is better, and then even later Amelia finds a teen breaking into an apartment, but instead of hurting the girl, invites her to do crime with her. The girl, Donna, later becomes Stand-by.

Also, just to make it clear, Lost Signal and co exist in New Gotham, an unholy fusion between New York and Gotham, where most if not all of the classic superheros/villains are in some way there, but not really. Like, Harold has a roommate at college named Otto, who happens to be a physics major and has a plushy octopus on his desk. But he never does anything, just sort of like that. One of Amelia's old roommates in college was named Pamala and brought her girlfriend over a lot, she also really really loved plants. Like, unhealthy amounts. So yeah, just like, they exist, but they don't exist, it's a mash up of the two worlds, but idk, if that makes sense what my rambling is on about.
