Description
- Continuing from my 2020 jack-o-lantern's description.
A year had passed, I now had a new car, and once again it was Halloween season.
With Covid still going strong, and the passing of my mother still on my mind, it was hard to get into the spirit, but the house was decorated, my costume was ready (I’m a Ghostbuster every year), and a fresh pumpkin was purchased (along with several large bags of candy).
Two days before Halloween, my last remaining grandparent, who had been living at my parent’s house, passed away.
My stepfather insisted that I should carry on with my holiday plans, but it was far FAR too soon, and so I cancelled Halloween.
I still had a pumpkin however, as well as a mountain of candy, and neither was going to make it to the next Halloween, so I carved my jack-o-lantern and dedicated it to the memory of my grandmother (a diehard Ohio State fan).
The candy was divided into small little snack bags and was to be left on a table in my stepfather’s driveway with a sign instructing trick-or-treaters to take one. In the end however my stepfather insisted on handing out the candy himself, and after dropping off the candy and jack-o-lantern at his place, I went home.
Once again the photos for my jack-o-lantern sat on my computer’s desktop until now.
The photo layout for this jack-o-lantern is pretty dry, because there was no sketching phase and I didn’t stick around for any night photos on Halloween. The night photo you see above is the test shot I took in my apartment immediately after the carving was finished.
Frankly, I’m not too enthused with the job I did assembling the photo’s for this and 2020’s jack-o-lantern. I could have found a way to make them a little more interesting, but I need to move on. I need these files off my desktop and packed away where they belong.
Will the drama carry through to this Halloween as well? God, I hope not. But my stepfather has been entertaining the idea of selling the house and moving somewhere smaller, so who knows how many Halloweens I’ll have left to celebrate for a while. I don’t see much of a point putting a lot of effort into a jack-o-lantern if the only way it can be enjoyed is through photographs. Only time will tell.
