Description
I completed this drawing just in time for my graduation. She's supposed to look like meAs usual, there is a ton of meaning in this piece. The butterfly dress symbolizes change as I close one chapter of my life (high school) and open up a new chapter (college). Butterflies are also one of my favorite critters in the world and I always loved to chase after them as a child and even now as a transitioning adult. The butterflies, in a way, lead back to my childhood as well. It's as if the graduate gown conceals the child underneath. Yet I still allow that inner child to shine through. Many metaphorical meanings there.
I noticed that Mrs. Sharpe's whimsical doodle-people held little hearts which I found adorable but, instead of that, I decided to give myself a paintbrush. I keep art very close to me as it has always been a sanctuary to me. It's something I can trust when I feel I cannot trust others. I do hold love in high regard thus I included a heart over my actual heart. There is a lot more metaphorical meaning with that little heart as well but I fear I am already babbling on too much.
This was a great experience with incorporating many vibrant colors and meaningful words in my art. It was quite a relaxing and stress relieving lesson which I much appreciated. I know I skipped around to do this lesson but this was exactly the art piece that I needed to do at the time. I seriously needed an art project that was not too nerve-racking since I had plenty enough excitement with my approaching graduation. I will go back to lesson two and move on consecutively from there. Hopefully.
One last comment, I had a scanned version of this drawing but I am afraid that it came out too washed out. Note: Originals are better than prints, digital images, or photographs. They are priceless and cannot be appropriately replicated to their full magnificence.
