Description
. . . and now for something completely different (and crazy huge.) I'm a big fan of the new My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic TV show, and an especially big fan of the pony Pinkie Pie. I wanted to get some kind of Pinkie Pie toy but I was unsure if I wanted one with hair or not until I found this thread via some googlin'. Intrigued by some of the successes of others, I decided on a hairy Pinkie Pie and made this tutorial for those looking for a little help fixing her hair up.UPDATE: I also have Rarity , Fluttershy , Twilight Sparkle , Rainbow Dash , and Applejack hair tutorials for those that are interested.
(For those that prefer the older version of this tutorial, it can be found here .)
Of course, My Little Pony, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, Pinkie Pie and the Hasbro toys are all owned by Hasbro.

Personally I prefer to keep my pinkie pie hair "pinkamena" style, but this seems interesting. I got fairly close with my old hair curling style, but looks like this might work even better. I'm sure it'll be worth the shot. thnxΒ Β

I tried that on one of my 2 (I can only tell teh difference between them because one has the cutie mark on the right and one has it on the left) too, I like it. :3 Half Pinkie half mena loks out, but I like my full-Mena. *derp*

Yeah, I'm just trying this out... Is it also possible with Rainbow Power ponies, who also have glittery hair? Because I have Rainbow Power series Applejack and Pinkie Pie...

I would try to be careful with the glitter hair. It will react to your styling differently compared to the rest of the hair. You can try your best to be careful with it, but you may just want to cut it out.

I solved this problem with making a braid of it and I twisted only a front part of hair. Tail is also twisted with rollers.

This looks like you had so much fun doing it! Did you celebrate? You should TOTALLY celebrate. In fact I think I'm going to do this with my Pinkie so we can have a hair styling PARTY! That would be so great! We can have candy and soda and music and I can tell ALL my friends about it and we can style each others hair and oh hey I see you've got other art here I'll check it out I love art art is so AMAZING and I write poetry and draw too OK see you later!

Maybe, eventually. My life has gotten quite a bit busier since I started doing these tutorials, but if that changes, I may set up a poll for people to choose who I'll style next.

Good! I was about to ask if this process would also work on a bigger Pinkie Pie, but as you mentioned I ll need to use bigger drinking straws or something else.

I used your tutorial and it turned out nice, but Pinkie Pie's mane is now a sponge for some unknown reason (it's true, you can actually squeeze out water from it). What should I do?

countschlick In reply to LunarfirePhoenix147 [2014-09-04 02:31:01 +0000 UTC]
That seems odd. Perhaps her hair got to hot? Can you seperate individual strands in her hair?
π: 0 β©: 1
LunarfirePhoenix147 In reply to countschlick [2014-09-06 03:46:06 +0000 UTC]
Well, when I brushed it out, the top part of her mane isn't very tangled, it's still sort of smooth, but the lower part of her mane is really dry and frizzy. I don't think I used hot water for her mane though.

countschlick In reply to LunarfirePhoenix147 [2014-09-06 18:02:17 +0000 UTC]
Well, if it seems a little too messy, you can always redo her hair by combing it out in hot water, ensuring that it is all smooth and ribbony before curling it. Getting the ends smooth may require some very hot, perhaps near boiling water.

If the hair is made out of the same material as the tutorial pony's hair, I don't think it will be much of a problem.

If I set aside more time in the future for pony styling, I was planning on setting up a poll to let people decide who I would style next. I could definitely put Pinkemena on that poll.

Well, if I wrangle up more time for styling anytime soon, I was planning on setting up a poll to let everyone decide on who they would like styled next. The EQD dolls would likely be on that poll.

I wonder if this would work on the Beanie Baby ponies? They have the same kind of hair right? Just a bit shorter?
π: 0 β©: 1
countschlick In reply to superwaffle350 [2014-04-24 20:40:37 +0000 UTC]
I think so, although less hair means less volume. Also, I'm pretty sure the "beans" in Beanie Baby's are not actual beans, but I would try not to get them too wet anyway.

This mane style will look adorable! Can you just cut it and put in hair spray/jell if the mane is already curly?
π: 0 β©: 1
countschlick In reply to Foxtail247 [2014-03-05 00:58:50 +0000 UTC]
I would try to stay away from hair spray and gel if possible. Hair spray has chemicals in it that can dissolve plastic hair and hair gel, although probably safer, tends to be messy. Plus, although it looks like Pinkie Pie needs her hair cut, you need all of her main for those big curls (and ideally more for her tail).

happipet [2014-02-26 23:25:43 +0000 UTC]
Do you have advice for tangled tails? My Pinkie's tail was messed up and tangled when I opened the package, and I can't seem to get rid of it. The mane is fine, but now the end of the tail is in a big clump. D:
π: 0 β©: 1
countschlick In reply to happipet [2014-02-27 18:27:44 +0000 UTC]
Tangles are tricky. I would suggest getting the tail wet first to reduce the frizziness. Then, start brushing the tail out, starting at the end and slowly working your way up to where the tail meets the rest of the pony. Be gentle and patient and you should be able to master any tangled mess.

will this Tutorial work for the pinkie pie from build a bear if u have to re-curl her hair if it gets all frizzy????Β

countschlick In reply to CocoCookieBear [2014-02-20 00:32:50 +0000 UTC]
Yes, sort of. The Build-a-Bear plushes do not have a lot of hair, so don't expect the same kind of volume you get with the little figures, but this method should help.

I'm giving a Crystal Palace Pinky Pie to my husband for Christmas (for his desk at work, though I imagine he'll leave it at home since he's not out of the Brony closet yet). I was highly disappointed in her hair, but I'm pleased to see a tutorial on how to fix it. I figured someone must have one out there, otherwise I would have to turn her into Pinkamena... which I may do with another Pinky in the future, actually.
