Description First, I would like to thank everyone for the excellent response to my Pinkie Pie tutorial . I'm really glad you found it helpful and I love seeing everyones' efforts here, on deviantART, in the thread on Ponychan and elsewhere.

Inspired by all of the positive feedback, I decided to do it all over again and create a tutorial for Rarity! This tutorial took me a little more time to complete than I expected and is fittingly almost 29% longer. However, it is similar in many respects to my Pinkie Pie tutorial, so if you have already used that one, this tutorial should feel very similar. Rarity's hair style is a little less forgiving than Pinkie Pie's random curls, so this tutorial required a little more explaining. And puns. At least twice as many.

( The puns have been doubled!)

UPDATE: I also have Fluttershy , Twilight Sparkle , Rainbow Dash , and Applejack hair tutorials for those that are interested.

And, of course, My Little Pony, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, Rarity, Spike and the Hasbro toys are all owned by Hasbro.

I have heard mixed results with ponies with glittery tinsel hair. If you are really worried about it, you can always cut the tinsel hair out, but things may turn out okay.

Ok I know this was posted a while ago but thank you!
My little sister's Rarity's mane is a disaster.
Since Rarity is my favorite I can't let this stand so I wanted to re-style it but wasn't sure how. Β
This should work perfectly.

I used a similar technic but I used paper towel to absorb the extra moisture with a straw, and used a little hair elastic to hold the straw. Thanks for showing me a better strategy to hold those curls wellΒ Β

Hmmm... I don't have any Rarity figures, but I may use this as a basis for working on Sunset Shimmer's mane.

Spent 4 hours doing this.. I didnt have hair pins so i just used some clips i got from clothes. then I had to use pip cleaners with the straw. Did I mention about the over 20 hair elastics/ rainbow loom bands?

I expect this to come out good. If it doesn't....Β  Β

Well, if I ever have the time, I was planning on setting up a poll for people to vote on who they would like me to style next. Trixie and Sunset Shimmer would definitely be on that poll.

You should have had the drowned rat looking Rarity at the top LOL. Would this tutorial work on the Rainbow Rocks Rarity as well? Because thats what my daughter got for christmas and it is a crime against fabulosity.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

countschlick In reply to UsagiLadyOfMoon [2014-12-28 20:57:30 +0000 UTC]

Probably. I believe your toy has tinsel in its hair, which people have had mixed results styling. I usually gave people the option of removing the tinsel first before styling, but I believe the Rainbow Rocks ponies have too much for that to be an option. However, having all of the tinsel grouped together may work better than it did with the Crystal Empire ponies. I would try it out and see how it goes.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

UsagiLadyOfMoon In reply to countschlick [2014-12-30 20:50:37 +0000 UTC]

Actually she has no tinsel in her hair, its just the yellow, purple, fushia mane. I can take the pictureΒ  i.ebayimg.com/00/s/ODM5…

its the Rainbow Power Rarity (my bad lol) Link is to a picture of her.

I never used bobby pins before in my life, but whenever I do some strands or the whole hair just seems to fall out. And I'm afraid that it would happen if I attempt this tutorial, how did manage to keep the straw on the front mane intact? Cause it almost looked like you just simply stuck them in the straw and rest was... Dare I say... Magic?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

countschlick In reply to Petalierre [2014-09-06 17:51:46 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, that's the magic of sticking several pictures right next to each other without indicating the grotesque amount of time taken between taking each one. Someone who commented under this tutorial (or perhaps Pinkie's) whose mother was a hair dresser suggested wetting little pieces of tissue paper and using them like tape to stick the ends of the pony's hair to the straws, making it easier to roll up. I haven't tried it myself, but I'm pretty sure it would make things much easier.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Petalierre In reply to countschlick [2014-09-06 18:42:02 +0000 UTC]

That's an interesting fact that you shared and is very useful, but I was talking about how you stuck the pins in the front mane. Did you just add one extra pin each stop? Or did you stuck multiple pins a the very end?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

countschlick In reply to Petalierre [2014-09-07 18:49:55 +0000 UTC]

Oh, sorry. I used pins at the beginning of the curling, at the end, and another near the beginning to get the curling started off well. If you use the tissue paper technique, however, I believe you could avoid using one or two of the beginning pins.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Petalierre In reply to countschlick [2014-09-09 06:29:52 +0000 UTC]

So exactly how many pins did you use in this tutorial for her front mane for both start and end?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

countschlick In reply to Petalierre [2014-09-10 22:17:08 +0000 UTC]

I believe I used two pins to start curling the front part of her mane, then one at the end to keep the curl in place. There was also one more pin placed at the roots of her mane to keep the hair (composed of two rows running down the length of her neck) as one ribbon, making it easier to curl. In total, that makes 4 pins on the front section of her mane.

Petalierre In reply to countschlick [2014-09-11 07:10:55 +0000 UTC]

awesome tutorial :3, I was wondering- do you think these instructions would work on the plushie's you can get that have actual hair or not?Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

countschlick In reply to ValkyrieLeigh [2014-08-31 18:29:25 +0000 UTC]

Maybe. I find that the plushies seem to have less hair, so you won't get the same volume you get here. However, I would venture that you can replicate the style with moderate success.Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

countschlick In reply to SabathePony [2014-08-09 18:35:41 +0000 UTC]

If it is neat to begin with, the best you can do to keep the hair neat is by disturbing it as little as possible. Unfortunately, the easiest way to make the hair neat again is to brush out the hair in hot water and style it again.

Any ideas or tips for how to style the TY beanie baby versions?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

countschlick In reply to NamelessAidan [2014-08-08 00:27:00 +0000 UTC]

I think you can use many of the steps specified here on the TY Beanie Babies. There are two things to note, however: 1) There is not as much hair on the Beanie Babies, so do not expect the same kind of volume you get with the figures I styled. 2) Be careful with the water. I think Beanie Babies are okay getting a little wet, but I wouldn't want to soak them and risk their innards getting moldy.

I loved your Pinkie Pie tutorial and just recently tried it on my own, and I think she turned out pretty good! And I just found a Rarity at a store yesterday (sadly at the place where I work they don't have all the ponies, or they have that glitter stuff in their hair instead). But now I have a regular Rarity, and I can't wait to try this out on her hair! Thanks so much for making these! (And I don't mind the puns hehe)

I have the Rainbow Power Rarity figure (Pictured here: www.hasbro.com/mylittlepony/en… . Would this tutorial still work despite the fact that some of her hair is made of a tinsel-like material?

countschlick In reply to Who-The-Hell-Am-I [2014-05-27 00:13:22 +0000 UTC]

I have heard mixed things about people who style the tinsel ponies' hair, so if you want to be safe, you may want to cut out the tinsel before you style her.

SabathePony In reply to countschlick [2014-08-08 13:50:53 +0000 UTC]

what I do is tie the tinsel up or braid it to keep it out of the way
