Bell Guide

Bells are the group's game currency and are earned by drawing or writing about your villagers, others' villagers, and town NPCs. Bells can also be earned by selling in-game items at the Shop 'N Sell  and by participating in group activities.

Bells are used in shops and can be traded or gifted to other members through the Post Office . Find links to shops on our home page, HERE .

Because our group is large and Bell counts change rapidly, we rely on members to track their own Bells. Bells are tracked using a "tracker" which should list your current bell total alongside links. These links show the mod team where you gained or lost Bells.

Example Tracker Template

Demo Filled Tracker

To add comment links to your tracker, click the timestamp underneath a comment (Next to the heart shape). This will give you a URL for the comment. Add that URL to your tracker as a hyperlink so the mod team can view the comment.

Your tracker does not need to be on dA, so feel free to use Google Docs, Google Sheets, or another website as long as the mod team can access it.

HOW TO EARN BELLS

Members earn Bells by submitting art and literature to the Creature-Crossing group. Once you submit a piece, it enters our queue. A mod will comment on the piece and tell you how many Bells you earned. This may take several days, so please be patient while you wait.

To submit, click on an art or literature piece you've submitted to deviantArt and click the Add to Group button found just underneath your artwork (or under the title of your literature).

Select "Creature-Crossing" from your list of groups and choose the proper folder. Find the guide to our folders HERE .

TOWN RESIDENTS - Only official town residents (official Town NPCs and official villagers who entered town with a ticket) will receive Bells. Personal NPCs will NOT receive Bells.

UPLOAD RULES - All art and literature should be uploaded on deviantArt. We CANNOT give Bells on pieces that exist only in your dA Sta.sh files. If you upload an animation or post a video on YouTube, we would like to give you Bells for it and all its individual frames. In your artwork's description, please provide links to the frames as individual Sta.sh files.

Below are the types of art Creature-Crossing will award Bells for

Creature-Crossing CANNOT guarantee Bells for unusual pieces that are not listed below

DRAWN ART

Partial body of a character - 100 Bells
If your artwork depicts half of a town resident's body, you will earn you 100 Bells

Full body of a Character - 300 Bells
If your artwork depicts 2/3 or more of a town resident's body, you will earn 300 Bells

Sketch - 50 Bells

Sketch by BugSpores

Example of a sketchy fullbody.

Colored - 200 Bells

Colored by BugSpores

Example of a flat-colored fullbody.

Lineart - 200 Bells

Lined by BugSpores

Example of a lineart fullbody.

Shading - 100 Bells

Shaded by BugSpores

Example of a shaded fullbody.

Background - 300 Bells

Background by Old-Verastophilis

BACKGROUNDS - Backgrounds must be unique, detailed landscapes or scenes to count for Bells. Patterns, gradients, and solid color backgrounds will not receive a background score

STACKING - Please note that many things will stack PER CHARACTER. For example, two sketched, full body drawings of two official town NPCs will earn sketch Bells twice, full body Bells twice, and the NPC bonus twice. You will NOT receive sketch and lineart Bells on the same character

SILHOUETTES - Colored silhouettes receive 200 coloring Bells, but not lineart Bells as they lack details

COLORING RAIDERS - A raider 's shadow form counts as colored even if it's pure black. This is their accepted colored form

SPECIAL ART TYPES - Lineless art will still earn a lineart bonus if the piece is clean, as a way of rewarding your work. Pixels will receive the appropriate partial or full body score, and animated pixels will receive an animation bonus too

ART/LIT COMBOS - Art and literature can be submitted alongside each other in the same deviation and will receive the appropriate combined total Bell count

RE-USING BASES - Only unique additions. Re-coloring the same base will earn you new coloring Bells, but not new lineart Bells. If you redraw a base (such as for a Your Character Here art piece), then you will receive Bells for each new lineart

APP ART - You may not earn Bells for your villager's app art (the art that appears on their application)

~ ~ ~

EMOTES

Sketched - 150 Bells

Lined and Colored - 400 Bells

Shaded - 500 Bells

FLAT SCORE - Emotes (bust shots of your villager created for interacting in activity journals) are judged on a flat basis per emote

LIMIT 30 - Please do not submit more than 30 emotes in the same deviation (to avoid slowing down the queue)

FOLDER - You are not required to submit emotes to the group (Most members keep theirs in Sta.sh). If you would like to submit them, send them to the Emotes folder, HERE .

~ ~ ~

ANIMATIONS

Small Animations - 1,000 Bell Bonus
Animations with 2 to 9 unique frames

Medium Animations - 2,000 Bell Bonus
Animations with 10 to 14 unique frames

Large Animations - 4,500 Bell bonus
Animations with 15 unique frames or more

UNIQUE FRAMES - All animations are awarded bells for each unique frame they contain.  At least 50% of the visible character should be in motion in the overall animation for frames to count as unique.  If less than 50% of the character is in motion, then animations only receive bells for the first frame plus the applicable animation bonus.

BLINKING - Animations of blinking and eye movements where this is the sole animation are NOT rewarded unique frame bells nor do they receive an animation bonus.

SMALL SCALE - Small-scale animations (Character bounces, single action loops, some 3D animations, and other small-scale animations) are scored by unique frames; please include a link to individual frames in the art description when appropriate.  These types of animations are awarded a bonus based solely on the number of frames within the animation.

LARGE SCALE - Large-scale animations (Animated Videos, animatics, some 3D animations, and other large-scale animations) are scored by unique frames; please include a link to individual frames in the art description when appropriate.  These types of animations are awarded a bonus based on the largest applicable section of animation; ie If an animatic is largely stills and scene changes it does not receive a bonus.  If it contains a section of a full body walk cycle that lasts 12 frames as a fully animated section within the animatic, it would receive the Medium Animation Bonus.

~ ~ ~

MODELS, SCULPTURES, AND CRAFTS

5,000 Bells

Additional 1,000 Bells if colored

YOUR OWN WORK - All models and crafts must be made by you. Commissioned crafts made by people outside of Creature-Crossing will not be accepted for Bells. 3D models are counted under this category

LITERATURE

1 literature word = 1 Bell

(Flavor text such as "Click here to read Part 2" does not count towards word count)

Every 1000 words = 1000 Bell bonus
(This bonus continues stacking every 1000 words)

~ ~ ~

Roleplays - 1 Bell per word (in total, not per member)
All notable participants of the roleplay will receive the same Bell score

Looking for more info on how literature is scored?
Click HERE  to read the detailed literature scoring guide

CONSISTENCY - Wordcounter.net  is Creature-Crossing's official word counter

MINIMUM WORD COUNT
- All literature submissions must be at least 100 words, and literature MUST be written in a literary way to receive Bells. In other words, you will not receive Bells for writing a character biography

ART/LIT COMBOS - Art and literature can be submitted alongside each other in the same deviation and will receive the appropriate combined total Bell count

FOLDER - If your literature is not related to a prompt activity, send it to the Misc. Literature folder, HERE (Instead of Everyday Life 2).

BONUSES

Your work can earn additional Bells if it depicts...

Your entry for Draw the Villager Below = 1,000 Bells

(Find the activity HERE )

Your Villager's Official Job = 1,000 Bells

(Find the Job Board HERE  and Morgan's Clipboard HERE )

Public Works Project = 1000 Bells

(Find official Lilypad PWPs HERE )

Another Member's Villager - 100 Bells

(The other member does not receive Bells; only the writer does)

Official Town NPC - 100 Bells

(Find official town NPCs HERE )

Entry for a Member-Made Event = 100 Bells

(An event hosted by a member instead of the group itself)

Member-Owned Business = 100 Bells

(Depict another member's shop to earn this bonus)

SPECIAL ITEMS - A few miscellaneous group items (such as the Surprise Bouquet item and Pogo's plushes) have unique bonuses attached to them. You will be told what the bonus is after gaining these unique items.

NON-CANON DEPICTIONS

Non-Canon = 200 Bells
(Total)

FLAT SCORE - If you depict your villager in a non-canon form (such as a Pokémon form for the "Draw your villager as a Pokémon" meme), you will receive 200 Bells for this non-canon version. No other Bells will be rewarded for a non-canon version of your villager (or anyone else's)

CLINIC EFFECTS - Any side effects that result from visiting Dr. NPC's clinic score for full canon Bells while the side effect is active. Please include proof of the effect in the description your work so mods know to give you standard Bell scoring instead of the flat non-canon score.

COMMISSIONS

If you were paid in Bells, you can receive a full Bell score on your piece

If you were paid in real currency or dA points, you may receive 50% of the normal Bell score

SPECIFY - Note the type of commission your piece is (Bells or IRL Currency) in the artwork description

CAUTION - BELL FARMING

"Bell farming" is defined as submitting a large amount of rapidly drawn, low-effort work. This is not permitted in CC and will be rejected.

This does NOT refer to sketch dumps, gift dumps, comics, or anything else that shows considerable effort and detail. Bell farming only refers to grinding large amounts of artwork quickly with little care for quality.

Question on emotes, a simple smile and a simple frown count bells or should each emote have its own style?

Nachtetraum In reply to AniSensation42 [2020-02-12 22:36:25 +0000 UTC]

The more defined an emote's lineart is the more of a bonus we can score. If it's the same lineart over and over, at most you'd get a bonus for the coloring but not the same for lineart. For better examples of how it all works feel free to browse the emote folder to see how scoring for some of them went.

Well am only asking over curiosity over was in a other Animal Crossing group and wondered if it applied the same. It seems so. Hah hah.

But yeah, like, gonna make emotes once I finally understand how to add a leather biker cap upon a head like my villager's. Hah hah.

Okay, got a question for you. Can you earn bells on art of a pending villager or do you have to wait for them to be approved? I wanted to start earning bells for clothes, tools, etc. for my very first villager (just joined recently) but she has not been approved yet ^^

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Nachtetraum In reply to BebopSparkles [2020-01-30 02:44:59 +0000 UTC]

Unfortunately you can't submit art of your new villager until your villager is actually approved. You can draw art and wait to submit it to the group for grading.
You can however, earn bells by drawing or writing about other villagers or npc's.

I'm sure this has been asked before, but I couldn't find a clear answer so I wanted to ask;;

Do Bells earned count towards a specific Villager or is it like a money pool where any of the villagers you own share Bell funds?

I wasn't certain on this, but I wanted to find out so I can determine if I need to adjust my trackers. Thank you for your time. <3

On your trackers you can do it however you feel most comfortable. No real right or wrong way to do it honestly.

I personally, used a shared money pool on one particular villager when I link a tracker for any sort of purchases/trades.

So take it I can't make a lot of art for getting Bells over its considered Bell Farming?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Nachtetraum In reply to AniSensation42 [2020-01-17 17:48:59 +0000 UTC]

Bell farming was considered to be like making large batches of emotes and expecting a large sum of bells. Making several art pieces or writing pieces and submitting them into the group isn't bell farming. That just means you're very inspired and want to contribute to the group! So don't worry about that and feel free to make as much art as you want. If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask any mods questions!

I hope like thats alright and like that's the reason why I made my question over the Bell Farming I read up.

Heyo, I have a question!!
How many bells would I earn if I made an animation meme with my villager?
thank you!!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Nachtetraum In reply to doqbot [2019-09-20 19:22:07 +0000 UTC]

It depends on how many unique frames are being used in the animation, then the usual art bonuses (full/halfbody, lineart/sketch, coloring, etc). So that could be a bit harder to answer.

But let's say its a small thing like this (Ex: pap ). The bell count on it was like this::
Halfbody - 100
Sketch - 50
Little Animations - 200
Total: 350

So it could be something as little as 350 bells or more depending on how much detail you put into it.
I hoped that answered your question!

oORiddleOo In reply to hellnu [2019-05-28 17:02:29 +0000 UTC]

At the moment, I know you can post musical lyrics and they will be scored like a poem (i.e. 100 word minimum required, words score for 1 Bell each, but a completely repeated stanza/chorus doesn't earn new Bells). If you sing / play an instrument to this song, you'll probably be awarded some kind of bonus, but we'll have to work it out!

Sorry to bother, I wanted clarification for something! If I did a few drawings of a villager and coloured them with different palettes, would I still get the bells for colouring? Would that fall under the non canon 200 bells, even though it's not on a meme? Trying to decide if I wanna do a lil palette challenge - thanks in advance!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

oORiddleOo In reply to tamingofthesandshrew [2019-04-29 15:05:58 +0000 UTC]

If you use different color tones in the appropriate places (as in, your character's markings are still drawn and recognizable and are simply done in different colors / shades) you will still receive Bells for coloring!

The important thing is consistency throughout the drawing. Palette challenges are fine and receive standard Bell scoring. Drawing a character with completely different markings than they should have receives the flat 200 Bells.

The best way would be to not delete the drawings, but u can move them into scraps. We need the proofs, but when u delete the drawings, the bell comments are gone and we mods have no way to be sure the amount of bells is correct.

Hello! I'm going to try to join in the next round and I have two characters that I want to play with. I know I can get 1 free and earn the other with bells. But I do want to draw the characters together in the mean time before I get the second character official.

If the two were in an art piece together, would it be possible to get bells from the art piece from character 1 who is official, then retroactively get bells for the art piece from character 2 once they are official?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

colombianGordon In reply to Pickleweasel360 [2019-03-22 04:49:50 +0000 UTC]

At the moment, we do not retroactively award bells once the image has been submitted.

That said, my recommendation would be that if villager 2 does not earn any bells at the time of submission, you can save the file of the individual fullbody or halfbody of villager 2 separately from the rest of the art piece and submit it as a stand-alone later, for bells. I hope that helps?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

oORiddleOo In reply to ThatDragonZeek [2019-03-14 04:51:35 +0000 UTC]

Yes! You will need to be a member in order to submit things to the group, which means if you are not a member you can't technically receive Bells (Only members have submission privileges).

You can freely draw things in advance and upload them to dA, then finally submit them all for Bells once you become a member. You'll be able to do that before you have an approved villager, and earn Bells from your gifts which you can spend on purchases as usual.

You will need to keep a tracker for your Bells even if you don't have a villager yet (You can browse the Trackers subfolder in the "Member-Made Resources" folder if you'd like ideas on what your tracker should look like). You also won't be able to participate in any activity that requires you to have an approved villager if you don't have one~

TL;DR - Yes, go forth and draw, and submit when you join the group!
