Description Despite how much I love pokemon, I've never ever actually beaten the elite 4 in any of the games. I've always just sort of lost interest and moved on. So, today, I finally did it XD I beat the elite 4 with my Fire Red nuzlocke team. Well, actually, only the 3 on the left, the other 2 are just the most notable deaths.

I was going to do a comic of this run (I already uploaded the first page), but once I beat the elite 4 I discovered the ROM I downloaded ends after the elite 4 and doesn't let you encounter Mewtwo. Mewtwo is an extremely important part of the story I have planned out for my nuzlocke. I fixed the problem, but it means I have to start over the game.

So, I have to start over and finish the game before I can start making the comic, which will probably take a week or two. I think I'll pick a bulbasaur as my starter this time, since I'd rather not play through with squirtle again. The one thing I'm really bummed about is that I now can't use my shiny beedrill as a character...
Maybe I'll try getting a shiny in my new run to replace him, although that could take a while.

Though I realize I may be shooting myself in the foot by offering assistance here if you have plans on killing Mewtwo instead of capturing him (the sooner we squash this idea that Mewtwo has to die in Nuzlockes, the better) you have to go through the Sevii Islands sidequest before you're allowed to go into Cerulean Cave in FireRed.

Oh, and after reading the comic you commisioned from Jhall, I have a couple other things to say:

I agree that Mewtwo wouldcnot just sit there if he knew the player was coming to destroy him. However, in most nuzlockes I've read, Mewtwo either doesn't know about the player coming or believes that he is the most powerful thing ever and that no one could ever defeat him, so he isn't concerned about the player. Now, Mewtwo is a psychic type, but there's no evidence in the game that he can see the future. This means that he would have no way of knowing the player is coming and probably would not see the player as a threat even if he did know, because he's easily destroyed so many humans before.

The move "Future Sight" is in Mewtwo's learnset.

Yes, but all future sight does is allow a pokemon to see one move into the future. If it truly was "future sight" then it would just allow the user to dodge every attack. It's limited. Besides, plenty of pokemon learn future sight/ protect, etc. It doesn't mean they're omnipotent.

Well, catching/ defeating Mewtwo is the last thing thing you do in the game. Therefore, even if I did catch him (which is against Nuzlocke rules since he would not be my first encounter in the cave), the game would be over and I wouldn't have a chance to use him anyways. This is just a nuzlocke on an emulator. I don't plan on going back to it and leveling up my pokemon/ breeding/ ev training, etc, so it's really game over after the Mewtwo battle.

You are forgetting that Repels could be used to make him your first encounter...and there are emulators that can be used to transfer your Pokemon to real games.

No, I'm not forgetting about repels. However, using repels is generally considered cheating in a nuzlocke. If, for example, I wanted a paras, I could just use repels until I got to the bottom level of Mt Moon. However, that would be against the rules because the whole purpose of a nuzlocke is that you don't get to pick and choose who's on your team. Mewtwo is no exception.

The only two official rules of a Nuzlocke are "first encounter" and "faint = death".  There is no actual rule against using Repels to get to a specific area or encounter.  I don't know where this whole idea of "repels are cheating" comes from but it's untrue.  Some people choose to impose that rule upon themselves but that is not canon to what nuzlocking is.

I was hoping by actually offering advice on how to get past the issue you were having, that you would reconsider what you were planning to do in the encounter.

Totally. There is not an official rule about repels, and I've even seen some people use them to catch legendaries in nuzlockes. However, I feel that the whole purpose of the "first encounter" rule is that you just walk into the grass/ cave and are stuck with whatever you find first. As the creator of the challenge says, the fun of a nuzlocke is "for the friends you'll make. Friends you didn't choose or want". By using repels to catch a legendary, you are going against the whole spirit of the challenge.

The problem I'm having is simply that my rom had a setting on it where the game just ended after the elite 4. I couldn't encounter Mewtwo at all, let alone catch or kill him. That's why I'm starting over, because I fixed the rom and can now complete the game.
