Description
Finally, after nearly half a month of having to return to school and already hating it (it's actually not too bad compared to my previous years - I have two study halls, so basically that means more time for me to goof off and work on my art and stories! Yay! Either way, that is among one of a few reasons why I haven't been posting as much as I was able to beforehand. But enough of my pathetic apologizing, onto what the reason you wasted your time clicking on this thing!Behold! My finest creation yet (again, the thing that every mad scientist says with every fiendishly clever contraption or malicious monster)! I give you, a predator for the Omnitrix alien Upchuck! Now I bet you're all wondering, "But Fanficwriter! Upchuck doesn't have a natural predator! He just eats everything in sight!", and to that I say . . . well, nothing. Long story short and from what I've gathered the founder of the fan-made Ben 10 Reboot that I work for, TheWalrusclown , every single one of Ben's aliens (which include all twenty of the original aliens, Spidermonkey, Kickin Hawk, and possibly Feedback and Bullfrag) has one of these nasty buggers lookin' to turn them into a quick snack. So expect more of these lil' beauties in the future!
Onto the facts!
Name: Porcupain
Species: Durionoid
Homeworld: Peptos XI (destroyed)
Prey: Gourmand (Upchuck's species)
Powers/abilities: Porcupain's main ability is her speed. While not as fast as other extraterrestrial species, such as Kinecelerans or Citrakayah, she's certainly much faster than the pudgy, rolely-poley, overweight Gourmands that she so ruthlessly hunts. Durinoids will typically and almost blindly rush at a group of unaware (and sometimes fully aware) Gourmands, select an unlucky individual, and impale them on their wickedly sharp claws before making a retreat to finish off their prey.
Durionoids are heavily armored with quill-like plating that makes them all but impervious to the intestinal blasts of Upchuck.
Durionoids produce a sticky saliva from their mouths that they ritually and almost obsessively lick all over their bodies with, coating them in a layer of the dried stuff. The reason this is so important to them is because their saliva contains chemical structures similar to that found in pizza grease, thus preventing them from being eaten by the Gourmands in the first place as they can not be eaten or digested.
Porcupain has heightened senses of hearing and smell, though their eyesight is somewhat poor compared to other species.
Weaknesses: Porcupain can be easily outrun by aliens such as Kinecelerans and Citrakayah and is thus almost defenseless against them until she turns into another form to counteract them.
Durionoids are almost unnaturally stupid when compared to the other nearly brainless species found in the Nemetrix and will almost blindly rush into nearly any situation as long as they have a chance of getting away to eat another day, preferably with a fresh snack in their claws no matter the odds. Even if they are heavily outnumbered by their prey they will attack - alone, though groups have sometimes been witnessed - they will charge at them with an almost suicidal-like quality.
Eyesight isn't as good as other predators.
Trivia: Porcupain draws inspiration from Pangolin s and porcupines (as evidenced by the name). Other inspirations include the Pokemon Sandslash and the Rattlebacks from The Future is Wild.
The species name derives from the durian fruit, an incredibly spiky and durable fruit that has been known to withstand the blows of hammers, knives, machetes, and various other instruments.
Durionoids are considered to be some of the stupidest animals in the galaxy. While almost all of the predators in the Nemetrix lack significant intelligence compared to the intellect of their prey, Durionoids are remarkably unintelligent; they are the equivalent of Appoplexians in this aspect, always blindly rushing into things no matter the odds or outcome, as long as they get what they want out of it - which in most cases is food. Even when a Durionoid has an excess amount of food available to them, they will refuse to share it with any member of their species that they aren't related to - even their own mates - and will stash the carcasses for later consumption.
Young Durionoids can't produce the pizza grease-like saliva that their parents can and must be routinely licked by them to prevent them from being eaten by hungry Gourmands. The young are helpless for roughly three months while their quills harden and seem to be even more dimwitted than their parents during this time, requiring at least one of them to keep an eye at them at all times. Even so, it isn't uncommon to find baby Durionoids in the most ridiculous or oddest of places that often make one wonder how they got their in the first place.
Fanficwriter1 speculates that an Ultimate form of Porcupain would have the potential to launch their quills at prey, similar to the myths about porcupines and their own quills.

My Upchuck predator is a Ground Sloth that's now extinct thanks to the Gourmands. They have sharp claws to penetrate their swarm gastronomy and condensed chest fur for protection. They are extinct because when Peptos 1 was destroyed, so were they!

This guy's going to get a redesign at some point in the near future because, at the time, I didn't really have any idea what direction I wanted to go in. I'm trying to move away from predators that are basically just Earth animals with extra features and trying to go for these that are truly monstrous and alien, like how some of Ben's aliens aren't necessarily based on any specific animal, plant, or object (prime examples being Ditto, Cannonbolt, and Spitter).
Currently, the plan is for the update to turn this suicidal porcupine into a gigantic, living battleship that can tank the hits is prey shoots at it and then lob them right back at twice the velocity and ten times the explosive power. Basically, a living battleship of sorts which, in my opinion, is a massive upgrade from this scrappy fellow. And no, they aren't extinct; they actually share a distant lineage with Gourmands (like how we share a bizarre 70% of our genes with slugs and 50% with bananas of all things. And no, I am not making this stuff up, this actually is a thing) that grants them similar abilities in addition to the ability to follow their prey through space like an armada of space cruisers.

Well, I wouldn't go off of Earth animals because most Nemetrix predators are. Smilodon, lizard fused with a bug, ostrich, octopus, others I can't recall at the moment. And we share 50% DNA with bananas?!

Those are still Earth animals, just mixed together. I'm talking pure alien, like something that clearly doesn't belong or resemble anything on Earth. Sure, it could have similar features - tentacles, horns, etc. - but not in the same arrangement as Earth animals, if it can be helped. You can't just slap on a few extra limbs, eyes, or switch out a set of appendages for a different pair and call it a day.
And yes, we share 50% of our DNA with bananas. If that wasn't weird enough, we share 60% of our genes with fruit flies, some 70% with zebrafish, and roughly 44% with bees. And course, there's the unsurprising 98% we share with chimpanzees and bonobos.

For a minute I thought you mean the other Porcupain (Ben's)

Yeah, I can see the confusion there. The Omnitrix alien version of PorcuPain was based on an alien created by FloofHips before they took down all their Ben 10 artwork due to issues with copyright infringement (in that someone else was using their work without giving credit or asking for permission). As far as I know, those images haven't resurfaced.

Very nice. But didn't Ben say Upchuck has no predators?

As I explained before, for this reboot, all of Ben's have a predator, including Upchuck as hard as that may be to believe.

Ok then. Would love to see Waybig's, Echo Echo's, Goop's, Alien X's, Ghostfreak's, and Rath's predators. Also I have this idea of a predator for Manshark.

The predators for Way Big and Ghostfreak are already done for the reboot if memory serves (you can find them in the Nemetrix group I'n a part of). As for Echo Echo, Goop, Alien X, Rath, those might be something I do later on.
As for Manshark's predator, I'd be willing to take a crack at it.

I was thinking it would be a cross between an Orca and a Megalodon. Maybe calling it Orkilla. That's all I got.

I could actually see that working out, though maybe replace the Megalodon with a Lioploridon ( which would have literally been able to eat a Megalodon for breakfast). I'll do some digging around for other prehistoric predators, but I like the idea!

I did some research. The Lioplurodon was 30 ft at average. Megalodon was double that at maximum size.

Either the source I was reading was wrong, or I was talking about another gigantic marine reptile. The big brutes that all belong to the mosasaur family all look and sound nearly the same to me, so confusion is inevitable.

Well not everyone can a prehistoric expert like me. Not trying to brag, but I have at least 21 books on Dino's and other prehistoric creatures.

I personally have an extensive collection of biology books as well, but I doubt I have as many on paleobiology as you do.
