Leon grew up in Canalave city admiring his older brother Clive and other members of the league wanting to join them one day and maybe become champion himself one day. He would often watch his brother battle on tv taking the league challenge seeing him climb all the way to the top to challenge his region's champion. His brother ended up losing, never getting the chance to face the champion. He never returned home leaving Leon and his family with nothing but questions and no answers.
Years later it was Leon's turn to follow in his brother's footsteps and take on the league challenge. Despite his parents warnings he was excited to start his own climb to the top so he could figure out what happened to his brother. Leon was a natural at battling pokemon easily figuring out winning strategies even in the midst of battle. His climb was a fast one drawing the attention of many, good and bad in equal measure.
One day a man wearing league gear approached him telling him that he was impressed with how good of a trainer he was but that he needed to stop asking questions about his brother. Leon did not heed the man’s warnings and demanded that he tell him what he knew about Clive. The man just ended up laughing at him and gave some “free” advice to go home and stop what he was doing or things would not turn out well for him.
Leon would not be stopped so he continued on winning battle after battle until he was at the final gym. The night before he was once again approached by the same man but he was not alone this time. He was going to put a stop to Leon one and for all or at least that was what he said to him something about being tired of him asking questions. Leon was forced into a four on one battle and was able to hold out long enough for an opening to appear to make an escape.
Barely getting away with his life he knew he had to leave Sinnoh and his family behind so after he was sure he was safe he wrote his parents a note and left his pokemon behind as he left everything behind. Weeks later he arrived in Issho looking to start fresh and to find a way to expose the corruption that was festering in the league. That's when he learned about team Zephyr and their fight against the League they seemed like his best chance to set things right so he went about finding how to join them.
