Looks like something iconic that would have been in Star Wars 30 years ago. Awesome!

one question. did you use a gears of war cog tag for the cog?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

CsDesigns83 In reply to Timelord242 [2013-04-25 07:26:47 +0000 UTC]

Yes, the gear is from a keychain actually. I just tried it in there as i was sculpting and thought it looked good, so i just went with it. Its integrated to the cast. Well observed..

plantlife1212 [2013-04-24 20:50:19 +0000 UTC]

so, so cool how did you make it?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

CsDesigns83 In reply to plantlife1212 [2013-04-24 21:21:05 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! Well i sculpted it in oil based clay. Hardest part was to make it symmetrical. Important part of sculpting a robot, obviously.
Then i molded it with silicone rubber and plaster. Casted with polyurethane (plastic). Did seam and body work with bondo and sanding, then i painted it using different kinds of masking. The chipped paint effect was done with liquid latex as masking. An easy technique that gave a great result Expencive project though..

One of the coolest sculptures I've ever seen! What did you make it out of?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

CsDesigns83 In reply to JustinoElArtista [2013-04-24 16:50:39 +0000 UTC]

Thank you so much, Justino! I made this sculpture out of oil based clay at first, then i molded it in silicone rubber, casted it in polyurethane, and basically painted it Like i said, its been molded, i can cast more versions, so this skull is for sale as well. Custom paint is also possible.

Interesting. How much?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

CsDesigns83 In reply to Xsuprio [2013-04-24 21:46:53 +0000 UTC]

Hard to say right now. Could be around 300-400$, maybe less. Lots of materials i need to buy first, but i will get back to you when i know more Or you can make me an offer you think is realistic for you. I really appreciate your interest!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Xsuprio In reply to CsDesigns83 [2013-04-25 10:47:25 +0000 UTC]

Well... it would look really cool in my steampunk-esqeu decor. Specially painted in copper and such. But even 300 is not even ballpark for me. An offer would seriously insult you, so I'd rather leave you with my compliments on this piece. Thank you for the info.
(Have you considered selling these on Etsy? You could make a pretty penny.)

CsDesigns83 In reply to Xsuprio [2013-04-25 15:25:35 +0000 UTC]

I like that idea! And maybe make some goggle looking lenses in its eyes. Perhaps even make them glow. That would look really cool.
Yeah, looking at it, it might be a steep price. So i understand. There seem to be others interested as well. Wanna cast up some more of it and do some different paint jobs on it as well, maybe i'll go with your idea on one of them Its definitely a cool theme.

Cool! I'm sure you'll do an excellent job. LEDs would definitely work on there. [link] With fiber optics, you could even bend the light or light up edges. [link] [link]

The skull itself or a print of it? I know quite a few people who'd be interested in having an actual skull.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

CsDesigns83 In reply to JustinoElArtista [2013-04-24 18:12:20 +0000 UTC]

The skull itself. I have molded it, so i can make many copies. So if there's an order I will cast one up, do some body work and paint it. The material will be in high quality plastic like the one you see in the picture.

Thanks, man. I used liquid latex as masking when i made the chipped paint effect. Also worked in layers so you can see the metal, prime and secondary paint
