Description
Gloson is said to be a descendant of the mythical boar Gullinbursti (meaning; golden mane) and is usually described as a large pig or boar with glowing eyes and a burning back or head.
Gloson is also known as razorback or fireback, it is a large animal that lives in forests but comes out to more open areas during dusk and early dawn. By midday the animals usually pull back to the shadows, if it gets really hot the may even search for shallow streams or ponds to wallow in.
Description
The female is called sow, she can reach a height of 110-130cm and a weight of around 300kg, the male or boar is much smaller than the female and only reach a height of 80cm and a weight of 200kg. However the males have bigger tusks, more and bigger quills and is more agile than the females.
The bristle of the animals vary from brown and dark brown to dark gray, but light brown and black individuals are also seen. During winter the bristle gets thicker and a bit more lightly colored than during the summer. Piglets have light brown to yellow bristle with characteristic white spots and a darker stripe along the spine, the snout is darker than the rest of the body. The quills on the back of adult animals glows in the dark in a yellow to orange color and so does the spots on piglets.
Behaviour
Gloson lives in small groups/packs, usually containing 3-8 sows and their piglets, 1-4 males may accompany the group while other males usually live alone. The largest female is the leader of the pack. Sows can mate anytime of the year and after four moths gestation 2-4 piglets are born, a sow usually wont get more than one or maybe two litters a year since they take a lot of effort to look after. When the piglets are about 8 months old their spots starts to disappear and after awhile quills will grow out, during this time the piglets are venerable since the doesn’t have any protection during night times and have to relay on the rest of the pack. A piglet reach maturity when it’s around 1,5-2 years old. Young boars leave the pack when they are around 2-3 years old while sows may stay for all their life, if a pack becomes to big it can the be split into two packs.
The pack members are very protective of each other, especially of the piglets and of younger sows, boars usually doesn’t receive the same kind of protection but they are agile and can usually outrun the most predators. A boar that fails to protect the piglets is almost always cast out of the pack or even killed.
Diet
Glosons diet consists of both vegetables and meet, more the half of the diet may be meet. Glosons mostly eat bulbs, shots, nuts, berries, rots, leaves, eggs, rodents, frogs and carrion but they may also hunt. During hunts glosons use their tusks to rip open the abdominal cavity and/or to rip of tendons in the legs. Glosons are also prey to other animals. Adult glosons doesn’t have very many threats but the piglets can’t fend for them self and are easy preys to lay down if they are alone. If a quill from a dead gloson is snapped in half it will glow for 10-15 minutes, working like a glow-stick.
This is my version of the gloson, I could see it fit in the Home and Asmundr comic that Johaan-N makes.
