Description
A forged steel atheme (athame? athamay? Not too sure how to spell this) with a blackened blade. Approx. 9 inches total, and a nice weight to it.Related content

Well, technically you could do everything on this piece without one, but where's the fun in that?

All hammered over an anvil, the only other tool I used was an angle grinder to smooth out the surface of the blade... and thanks, btw.

Amazing. Simple, from a single wrought iron bar? Yet highly decorative look to it, considering it doesn't have a single engraving to it.
Is it actually open at the, er, hilt end? As a way to attach a rope or cord?
Also, wiki says athame. It also looks like a kunai/ninja throwing dagger from the Naruto anime series.

It's made from mild steel, "mild" being a modern term referring to steel with a low carbon content. The long and short of steel is that the more carbon it contains, the harder it becomes.
And this piece was a cheater, I made this before I was good enough to forge out that type of blade from a single piece so I actually made the blade separately from the handle and welded them together after the forging was done.
A few friends of mine did point out that it looks like a kunai, which I think is pretty neat. Maybe next time I make one like this I'll try to balance it out so it can be thrown easily.
