Ruby is a woman of simple tastes – she loves to thrill and be thrilled. Given she was raised as a mascot for a battling circuit, it’s no wonder she developed into a crowd pleaser with an eye for excitement. She shines when she’s in the spotlight, and is most at home when she’s surrounded by people. She craves the company of those who can give her energy and enjoyment, and her attention is easy to lose if she finds herself stagnating. She’s prone to hopping between interests, activities, and even relationships if she feels as though the initial spark has dulled or fizzled.

While not haughty by any means, Ruby is very confident in herself and doesn’t allow others to patronize or otherwise belittle her. She knows she is skilled and she knows she has worth, and as such she refuses to have that view challenged by others. As it stands, a lot of what makes Ruby Ruby is her ability to create and project an image much larger than herself. When in private, she’s significantly less overwhelming, but is still capable of exuding a constant energy that can be infectious.

Ruby is very much an “eyes on the prize” sort of person who will do anything to get what she wants. While this determination has gotten her far, it has also gotten her labeled as obsessive and callous. While her ethics can be considered lacking, she is still a very passionate person who prefers to keep all of her relationships free of animosity. This is mostly to protect herself as opposed to others, however.

History:

Ruby was raised as a mascot for a large battling circuit that had been set up in Alola. She was the prized Pokémon of the circuit announcer, but was not a battler; rather, she was preened into a marketable example of Alolan Pokémon that could be shown to fans of the competition. This treatment allowed her to lead a somewhat spoiled lifestyle, as her owner was prone to giving her anything she wanted so long as she performed the way she was told in front of the cameras.

Unfortunately, her life of leisure was cut short when Team Skull thugs broke into her owner’s home and stole several of his prized Pokémon – herself included. By the time she was finally released from her pokéball, she realized she was a long way from her home in Alola. Knowing an exported Alolan Pokémon would sell well overseas, she’d been carried all the way to Kalos in search of a buyer. When the representative holding her finally released her for showing, however, she panicked and escaped in a flurry of feathers after attacking her handler.

Scared and unsure where to go, she wandered the streets of Lumiose City, hiding from strangers and wild Pokémon looking to make a snack of the tiny and inexperienced Oricorio. She was eventually found by an Apellon recruiter looking for wild Pokémon to bring into the organization under labor contracts – intrigued by the clearly out of place bird Pokémon, they offered her a dittech if she agreed to take a low level job in the Luceo fight pit betting office. Knowing she had little other options, Ruby took the offer.

After a short period of learning how to be a human, Ruby immediately skipped town and abandoned her Apellon contract to head back to Alola. She didn’t want to be a human – she just wanted to go home. Unfortunately, her journey didn’t have a happy ending like she’d hoped. She returned home only to discover that she’d already been replaced, and her owner hardly seemed heartbroken about her disappearance. Dejected, she returned to Kalos and her mediocre new job with her tail between her legs.

She worked in the betting office for a few months before she was scouted out by Lex Mizrahi and hired to work in their club. She built a formidable reputation as one of Lex’s headline acts, before she was finally overtaken by the idea of building a special format fight pit in Alola. She consulted with Lex on the venture and after several months of planning and learning about the ins and outs of running her own business, she opened the doors of the Wonder Dome to the public.

Relationships:

Lex (Incineroar*) – Ruby’s former boss at the Voix de Ville, and the reason Ruby isn't still working as a fight pit betting office attendant. Ruby is very thankful to Lex for giving her a second chance at stardom, and has learned much of what she knows about business from working with them. The two are very close, getting along well and even enjoying an open relationship in the process. Ruby is aware Lex is non-monogamous, though, and is perfectly willing to keep things casual.

Sable (Volcarona) - Mostly acquainted from their brief time working at the VdV together, Ruby and Sable generally only meet in passing these days due to the Volcarona playing bodyguard to Lex. They respect one another, at least, and admittedly have also had casual relations.

Morgan (Glaceon) - A former rival headliner when Ruby and Morgan were both performing at the VdV. She harbors no ill will for him these days as any rivalry between them died after they both left Lex's immediate employ. She thinks Morgan's a little uptight given where he came from, but she respects what he's done with himself.

Frankie (Litleo) - Frankie is apparently a huge fan of Ruby's, which she thinks is pretty adorable all things considered. She's very patient with him and has even given him free tickets for dates before to keep him occupied; he hasn't really done anything to warrant any concern that he's attracted to her, at least, so for now she's more than happy to make his day with a little friendly attention.

Extras:

    -       Ruby has a decent amount of Alolan nectar in reserve for when she feels like doing a Style change, but she generally sticks to a single Style for as long as possible. She admittedly prefers Baile to the rest.

    -       She’s used to the high life and likes being famous. She’s been on posters for the Alolan battle circuit (as an Oricorio), the Voix de Ville, and the Wonder Dome. Being stuck in that betting office in the Hotel Luceo was awful. 0/10 would not do again.

    -       She’s actually a pretty hard worker and a fast learner. She put a lot of effort into learning how to create and run a business in order to impress Lex enough to fund her pet project.

    -       Ruby’s fight pit runs the standard fighting formats most of the time (one-on-ones, tag team matches, free-for-alls, etc.) but the main draws are the Alolan-inspired headline matches. One battle format incorporates the SOS battle system common in Alola, and the other creates a gauntlet-style title defense where a pit fighter fights to remain the totem champion. Both are exceedingly popular, and the winning payouts are handsome.
