Because I've just finished biography of Napoleon Bonaparte. ... listening to la Marseillaise for all day makes me crazy, lulz, but I love it so much!18 brumaire - General Napoleon Bonaparte overthrew the French Directory, replacing it with the French Consulate.

Ironically, from what I heard, both Napoléon and the Royal Restauration(s?) removed the Marseillaise as the national anthem, and may have even forgiven public playing...
That said, Napoléon paradoxally strenghtened a big part of the Revolution's legacy, some legal changes and all, and 'exported' it under an imperial, authoritarian package.
