The Size of the Gif: Well, if you’re only posting it on DA you don’t really have to worry about it, but some sites will have a max. size (example: 1MB).
How to make your gif smaller:
By actually resizing it. Using less pictures(snapshots). Make it black and white (in batch editor).
Tip: the speed of the gif doesn’t change the size!! But the more movement your gif has, the bigger it will be (example: A gif in which the person moves but the background doesn’t will be smaller than a gif with both the person and the background moving).---

There is a much much MUCH easier way to grab snapshots which I use personally. I just turn on FFDSHOW VIDEO CODEC filter when I want to make gifs for a video. It comes with a grab function which you can checkbox on when you want to start grabbing frames. Then play the video and it will grab every frame, then uncheck the box and look at the folder you have the frames saved to. They will all be there if you selected 'every frame'. You can adjust it what it grabs very easily.

Sure there are. I use Photoshop CS6 now to make my gifs, which is an even more easier way to make them XD. But this is just 'a' way. I'm pretty sure there are a lot of tutorials for getting gifs out of videos on DA
