You know this kind of reminds me of how some people react to someone who's sick, particular in these times if the pokemon had that. Something like that is a sign of get away from him or you're gonna get sick yourself.

partially yes that would be the reason, in this example it can be understood a bit later why any Pokemon would see this as very bizarre, but for now, its pretty much the equivalent of seeing someone you were teasing throwing up in front of you and you (in this case the senasel n others not being very good individuals) leaving his poor friend alone to deal with it

Some animals in the animal Kingdom will pull off a at of dying in the most painful way possible to fool predators that they are contaminated with some sort of disease and what predator would eat that, That's what this sort of reminded me of.
