Description
In another time, another place...hell, in a completely different story...these two would have been together.
Actually, in the campaign setting a friend of mine is running in his DC Adventures campaign, these two ARE a couple.
Boom Box (Ashley Winthrop) and Prometheus (David Flynn) are a couple...and villains. In this 'verse, David is a revenge driven technologist out to go after the group behind the murder of his family and Ashley is his enforcer and lover. David has assumed the identity of a deceased villain (he would be the third Prometheus) and Ashley has faithfully followed him on his crusade.
Ashley's origins are similar to her original. She was a normal human whose metagene kicked in and ended up being up stuck in a fighting promotion since she wasn't the brightest bulb in the box and her employer took advantage of that.
Until David showed up at one of Roulette's Megabrawl events as Prometheus which ended up with Ashley's employer losing her head (seriously...David was pretty precise with that vibro-blade). After killing Roulette and getting the information he needed, David proceeded to deactivate the implants Roulette had put in most of her fighters (like Ashley who needed to be motivated). Ashley, with nowhere else to go, offered to follow David. David, seeing the value of having someone like Ashley on his side, agreed but made Ashley agree to let him look at the neural implants in Ashley's brain (mostly because he didn't want to worry about any of Roulette's people finding a way to use them to track her or reactivate them).
After a couple weeks of working on the implants, David decided to keep them in, but he had altered their function. Instead of controlling Ashley, it altered various synapses and impulses in her brain, stimulating and altering her thought processes. There was also a slight bit of mental re-programming that slowly worked its way into Ashley. Oddly, David didn't program to be his obedient follower, he programmed her to be more independent, free-thinking, adaptable and able to "think outside the box". The results was a more intelligent and a less inhibited Ashley. While she wasn't a mega-genius, she found herself able to think more clearly and quickly in combat situations. She has also taken an interest in studying the human anatomy (namely muscles, bone structure, joints, nerve centers, and weak points).
Ironically, this made Ashley even more loyal to David even though that wasn't his intention (he initially thought of her as a useful weapon/asset that needed to be honed and sharpened). In the next few years, their partnership became something more.
