I hope it's not a rat snake. Midwestern colubrids and rattlers do NOT get along.

When it comes time to hibernate in winter, rattlesnakes often times share dens with not just other rattlers, but also ratsnakes and even other venomous snakes like copperheads. The other snake in that shot is a black rat snake. In the wild outside of wintertime hibernation, I take it that colubrids and rattlers don't tolerate each other's company do they?

I was thinking more of king snakes, which, given the opportunity, would eat rattlers. I suppose, given that the colubrid family is a foster family rather than a family of snakes that are actually closely related, rattlers could get along with some more than others.
I remember seeing a YouTube video of a herpetologist demonstrating rattler behavior in the presence of a king snake. That poor rattler was downright terrified. Granted, the king snake was much smaller and already satiated, but the rattler was still petrified. It even stopped rattling.

There were definitely no kingsnakes in any enclosure with any rattle snakes that I can recall. King snakes were housed in a separate exhibit I'm certain of that. Colubrids are a whole mix bag of snakes that is found worldwide, and I've got photos of several other colubrids, like the Asian vine snake, tentacled snake, black rat snake, corn snake, and eastern pine snake.

Nice. Perfect pose, and even the look of an interesting moment when one snake comes across another. Overall great photo!

I got another pic of the snake in the background by itself, but I'm not sure what species it was offhand. I'm going to upload the pic of that snake by itself and see if anyone can tell me what it is.

I just posted a picture of the other snake in focus and has a good overall view of its body to help out with identifying it.
