Traditional Selection
Kaikaikiki
Kaikaikiki 's work may look abstract but if you're wondering why many of the pieces are classified as landscapes or animals, then you need to look closer. The tiny characters embedded into abstract style scenery create unique pieces of art that you'll love. They are all so full of life and action you can't help but feel rejuvenated. A big smile on your face will testify to that after you full view.

ifsandbuts
As most traditional artists know, watercolor is pretty darn hard, but ifsandbuts has found a way to create these soft, gentle pieces that have a wonderful spirit to them. You can't help but over the technique, and you love looking at the little tiny details.

The Easter Journal
April 23, 1916 – Easter Sunday
My family found it interesting that this year my twentieth birthday coincided with the rising of our Lord. I didn’t really think much of it. Perhaps I should have been somewhat proud of the similarity, but it wasn’t exactly the most pressing issue on my mind. Father got me a present this year, just like he said he would. He spent nearly all of his money to buy me a Winchester 1897 12-gauge shotgun that was smuggled into the country.
It was hard to come by ever since those damned Brits put up the imported weapons ban. But Father didn’t want me to be stuck with some German piece of junk
Drunken Jersey
Here I sit again
Alone with a 40 in my lap
And as I reach into the box
I pull out a warm brew and say:
Here's to Drunken Jersey
Home of my sorrow
Bringer of my resolve
This liquid happiness to keep me company.
She dumped me not a few hours ago
Something about the way I ate
It all just seems like a blur
When the booze starts to take affect
Here's to Drunken Jersey
Home of my sorrow
Bringer of my resolve
This liquid to happiness to mend my heart.
I lost my job just today
Kicked out for being late
Well I don't need that boring work
At least that's what Jackie-D is tellin' me
Here's to Drunken Jersey
Home of my sorrow
Bringe

The Easter Journal | Drunken Jersey | Jersey's Sins: The Family
Tons of good deviants featured this month, I feel it's getting better with the selections and I thank the people that send them in and the staff who features these amazing writers.
This month's feature though, always hard to decide, mind you; goes to Term-the-Schmuck . He has demonstrated with superfluous ability to conjure a storm of deep plots within his stories. The Easter Journal is a great example with added historical accuracy for all you history buffs, defines the perspective of a soldier fighting the Irish revolution through his eyes. So many great works in his gallery, have fun perusing it, and see you next time in August!

it was called a call to arms
and I denied it

You used a pencil,
but quit too soon.
You used the wood winds
but ran out of air.
Here: you hang your medals and
bring me to justice's home town;
you slap my back and tell me 'no'.
One cliche too many,
and I've got nothing.

I've had a really good time choosing features this month, coming across a lot of fantastic deviants who I had never before heard of. JShay is one of these and he's my favourite for this month, take a look at his poetry and you'll soon see why.

darkdescartes
Addicted to Self-Righteousness James Hairston is clean, and don’t you forget it. He gotta drive us all over everywhere, just to prove he can. Orders his coffee caffeine-free, ain’t never had a drink or a smoke in his life. His damn station wagon has so many bumper stickers on it. Proud to be smoke-free. See Dick drink, see Dick drive, see Dick die, don’t be a Dick. National Alliance Against Drug Use. Even D.A.R.E. He’s like a health teacher, back in junior high. “That marijuana’s bad for you, Bill. I care about your safety, and it’s going to kill you. I can help you quit.” Shut up, man! Why’s he even hang out with us? I heard h
Plans Turn Back Into GoalsThe barricades are in the final
Stage of their decay
The cracks turn into fissures
And the fissures melt away
The rubble isn't ruin
For the sun comes shining through
My pathways are illuminated
(As are yours for you).
The freedom I've been waiting for
Is close enough to taste
(I hope my taste buds waken
So it will not go to waste)
For every hour I've spent at home
Defacto deaf and dumb
I'll speak when I am better
(If better I ever become)...
I'm almost free to sit outside
Cross-legged in the night
My back against a sandstone wall
And work by laptop light
Adjacent to my future
I will rot from people's sight
And never know
When Happy Birthday Isn't...How do you wish a happy birthday
to someone you don't even know?
How do you guess their age,
and, more importantly, their feelings
about getting older?
How do you pick an adjective
when "happy" may not be enough
to stave off grief
or augment joy?
I wish you the best of luck -
but you can tell I don't really
when I sound like a fancy Hallmark card.
Enjoy the cake.
Your family might be too poor to buy cake.
It may be that Aunt Emily
refused to let your parents
buy a perfect, forever user-friendly
refrigerated confection with lukewarm sentiments
and instead baked you a warm spiced fruit
atrocity filled with love.

Addicted to Self-Righteousness | Plans Turn Back into Goals | When Happy Birthday Isn't
Wow, my first full month as literature staff has been manic! It is astounding and reassuring to know that in our humble literature corner, there are so many diamonds to be found.
I have chosen darkdescartes as my Monthly feature to round off the month of celebration for this deviant! Not only did they win my Addiction competition back in April and get featured here there and everywhere, the same entry was nominated for a Daily Deviation! Deservingly too, darkdescartes has an excellent clarity to her writing and a style that captivates any reader.
Looking forward to the next month ahead!
