Description This is really the first thing that I've done this much experimenting in Sai for. I'm loving the program.

For those of you who don't know me that well.... well, let's just say that Severus Snape is pretty much my favorite Harry Potter character. (I even made a crappy little plushie from BabyLondonStar's Sit tutorial, but I won't be showing the way I sort of butchered her pattern. XD It's an awesome tutorial though, if you want a plushie done: [link] )

Tools: Paint Tool Sai
Time: I started working on this a few days ago, off and on in my free time. A few hours perhaps.

XD I was originally going to try to do the entire portrait in JUST the 1 and 4 px pencil tool to give it more of a sketch look... Scrapped that idea for time conservation. LOL

You got the likeness down very well. The soft airbrush-like look gives a nice effect. Snape's probably my favorite character, too, especially after what happens in the last book D:

^_^ Thank you for the comment, I really apreciate it, and yes, I was sad to hear his fate in the last book. ):

Thank you! I wanted to try something in Sai a bit other than chibis, yours of course is still in the works. XD

LOL, at least it's recognizable then.

Wait this was done on SAI?! Wow! You're so quick to adapting to new programs!
I thought it was done on PS for some reason haha xD

LOL, I wanted to see what I could really do with the program, besides using it for something other than chibi line-art. The only thing I added in PS was for my sig brush. I like using the brush more than signing pieces. LOL

Nah, I haven't even been able to figure out how to install new textures or brushes or anything that I got for Sai. I did what the instructions said that came with the download, and still didn't work for me, so I'm stuck using the default tools. XD So, still a lot to learn.

I DID however join two Sai Groups. PaintToolSai and PaintToolSai-Artist Message box tend to fill up a LOT faster than what I'm used to dealing with though. D:

Ah I see lol xD

Aww yea it's not easy like photoshop where you can just upload the brushes. In SAI you have to put the textures and brushes in separate folders and fix things up yourself ><
Haha I'm still learning with SAI as well haha xD

Oh I see Lol
Well if they are filling too much you can always manage your friends and stop them from sending you so much stuff

XD Lol, yeah trying to do the config file just sort of drove me up a wall. STILL wasn't able to get some of that done, but what I WAS able to do, was copy/paste some of the files, so there is more in English than there was in the Sai folder. Not sure all of it worked, but hey, the tool presets are a bit more expanded now, and that's always a good thing, right?

XD I know, but I DO want to see what others in the Sai group are doing with the program, it's just it takes SO LONG to get anything downloaded to view on my connection. XD

Lol yea
I'm still playing around with all the tools to see what does what and using tutorials to install new tool.

Awww ><
Yea that sucks that you have to live with Dial-up
But I must say it's better then nothing

Have you tried using the water color too? That was one of the main tools that I found that I've really liked so far. It has blending cababilities as far as each stroke blending that outstrip the brushes in PS. That, and the pencil tool for line-art with the smoothing feature, I don't thing there's anything cabable like that in PS, unless you're talking about using the pen tool, and manipulating anchor points. XD

Yes, as much as I gripe about my connection, I would certainly be lost without it. ROFL. XD

Yes the water tool is love for blending ^^
Yea I find the pen and the ink pen tool amazing for smooth outlines ^^
And then I use the brush tool to fill in colours and blend and mix the colours together.

I use the air brush a lot too, but yes, the water tool is awesome. XD Some of the tools remind me bit of how Corel painter tools more than Photoshop with the way that they blend, but I lost that program quite some time ago in a system failure. LOL

I never used Corel Painter before
Aww that sucks ):
