If Angus had not stepped in and had that little tiff with Gregg over not being responsible, that probably would have been the next logical step lol (But then they would have ended up down the hole with Casey O~o)

Think about that for a minute! It actually popped into my head when I saw jack playing it: Casey was Gregg's friend. Casey was dragged to the hole and thrown in due to a sort of "guilty by association" type deal with his...brother? Cousin? I can't remember exactly. All because he was tight with that person. Gregg was known to pull pranks or "crimes" around town, probably dragging Casey along on them when Mae left. If Casey hadn't already disappeared by that point. But based on conversations at the start of the game, it's safe to assume that Casey was around after Mae left but was thrown down the hole to his death a short time before Mae returned to Possum Springs. If Mae had stuck around and pulled crimes with Gregg AND Casey, it kind of stands to reason that all three of them in succession would have been thrown down the hole to the "black goat"...
