Description Chapter 3: Books and spells

~~~~~~~~~~
Garfield woke with a scream. He shot out of bed, right into Rachel, "Oh, heh, I'm sorry, Rachel."
"No problem," She replied with her regular monotone, "I herd you sobbing in your sleep so I came to check on you. When I came, you were drenched in sweat. I carefully carried you into my room and made you a cup of tea," She then proceeded to hand the changeling a cup of tea. He gave her a polite smile then took a sip.
"Thank you."
Rachel focused her energy and lit all the candles in her room. The prince stared in awe at all of the books. Three of her walls were bookshelves, each reaching to the ten-foot high ceilings.
"What are all of these books?" Garfield looked with wonder at Rachel.
"They're spell books. Each of them has a certain type of magic to them and that magic is separated in to good and dark magic," Rachel looked around. Using her powers, she carefully pulled out a set of scrolls, "These are the Galion scrolls."
"You mean-"
"Yes, the original scrolls of magic. Written by Roderick the Sorcerer."
"Woooooooooooow....." Garfield paused. He furrowed his brow and stood up, "Do any of your books say anything about changelings?"
The sorceress paused. Again using her powers, she carefully took out one of the more tattered books. Its binding was almost gone. The only thing keeping the parchments from falling apart was a few threads, "The last person I showed this to nearly killed me."
Garfield frowned, "Who did you last show this to?"
"The Dragon King."
Garfield’s eyes went wide. The dragon king had been trying to wipe out his kingdom for as long as anyone could remember. He was the most evil and corrupt half changeling. The only thing he cared about was the book that had cursed him. Legend says that the sorceress that used to be his lover put a curse on him. He now could only change to his dragon form, "Are you the-"
"I am the sorceress that put the curse on him, yes."
"And you used to-"
"Yes, we were in love."
"And this is-"
"Yes, this is the book I used to curse him.....does that make sense?"
"No, but It'll work."
Rachel rolled her eyes and began to carefully sift through the pages. Garfield looked over her shoulder. The book was magnificent. Every page had notes and very detailed drawings. It was all hand-written.
“Wait,” Garfield paused again, “If this is the book that cursed him, and he wants it, right?”
Rachel nodded
“…why don’t you just destroy it?”
Rachel took a deep breath. Throwing her hood over her face she started, “Because this book….it-,” A hand was reaching to the side of her face. The changed prince took the hood off her head.
“I like it better when your hood is off,” Garfield smiled, “continue.”
A little surprised, the sorceress continued, “I used this book in keeping you alive.”
“So, this book is important in keeping me alive too?”
Rachel sighed, “Yes, I couldn’t do the spell without its power”
Garfield looked her straight in the eyes, “Thank you.”
“For what?”
“You could have destroyed the book and your ex-boyfriend would’ve been gone. Instead, you kept it and used it to save me. Thank you,” Garfield’s eyes flickered in the candlelight. He put his hand on hers. Rachel’s cheeks turned a deep pink. She turned away and grabbed another book.
“You should know that, under the powers of the book and the changing, you won’t die of natural causes.”
Garfield gave her a puzzled look.
“You will not die naturally. Illness will not kill you.”
“So I’m almost immortal!?” Garfield smiled.
“Unless someone stabs you, you are immortal,” Rachel looked at him. A slight blush still marked her face. Even if she did alter his genetically, his personality outshone all of the differences. She only wished that was possible for herself.
“Well, I guess we’re lucky everybody loves me, am I right.” He wiggled his eyebrows. The dark sorceress just rolled her eyes. Outside, the light switched from a dark blue to purple. The sun had begun to rise.
Rachel sighed as her newly found friends began to pack up. They had been there the past 5 days and so much has happened. As everything was finally put back into place, it looked like her own home. Her lonely, dreary, singular home. She sighed as her friends gave their quick goodbyes. Garfield then approached her.
“Come with us.”
Rachel gave him a look of shock, along with Stone and Dick. Kori just giggled, for she saw this coming. Garfield smiled and politely waited for a reply.
The empath still did not reply, her mouth slightly agape. Garfield’s eyes drooped as he waited for her rejection to come. ‘Of course she doesn’t want to come to the castle. Am I stupid!?’
Rachel’s voice was barely audible, “Ok.”
“Wait, what?” It was Garfield’s turn to stare in shock. He had hoped she would say yes, but never really thought she would. The joy finally overtook him. Running forward, the prince pulled Rachel into a bone-crushing hug. (Almost as bad as Kori’s).
“Let. Go. Of. Me.”
Garfield let go, “Right, right. How long will it take for you to pack?”
“Not long.” Everything in the empath’s home surrounded in black. It didn’t take long for her to get all of her things into 3 good-sized bags. She never was fond of having lots of things.
Taking a deep breath, they all head back home. As for Rachel, she headed to her new home.
