Description Springbok horns! complete with jewelery.
They're all the rage in formal-wear.
...or they would be, if I was in charge.

Used almost the same method to make these as I did my Ram's horns; Wire mesh armature, sculpted with paper mache, except around the base of the horns. About an inch worth of the base of the horns is made of Aves Apoxy Sculpt, which is a much heavier medium. This helps anchor the long horns and keeps them upright. After the paper mache was dry, I dipped them in liquid wood-hardener (a substance you can get this at any hardware store. It's used to harden rotten wood.) The paper mache sucks the liquid up really well and becomes rock-hard and waterproof.

These are beautiful! How did you attach these to your head without letting the attachment show?

Thanks! There's a brown shoe lace running through the base of each horn, which is tied behind my head. You can see the knots on either side of the horns if you look close. I just bought strings that matched my hair ^__^

These are great! They really should be part of formal wear! How do you keep them on your head? Headband, or are you wearing some sort of wig, or maybe some sort of clips? They look natural!

Thank you all! A shoelace runs through each of the horns bases. It ties at the back of my head.

There's a shoelace running through the base of each horn, which is tied at the back of the head. Does a surprisingly good job of holding them in place.

Lovely horns! Wow! They look so real!

I am in the process of trying to make a headpiece with flowers and real Springbok horns. What is the Aves Apoxy Sculpt you used to fix the horns in place? Never heard of it before. I thought by looking at it, you just strung the horns on a rope and tied it in the back? ANy advice? Thanks!

Thanks very much! ^__^
Aves is a brand name. Apoxy Sculpt is the name of one of their products, which is a sculpting medium. It comes in two parts you mix together and it's self hardening. It's really strong and heavy.
What I meant was that I used the Apoxy Sculpt to form the base of the horns (instead of continuing to use paper mache) because it's heavier than paper mache. I figured this would help the horns be more stable and help them remain upright on my head.
You're right that it's a shoe lace running through a hole in the base of the horn that keeps them on.

hypethetically, would someone be able to make these types of horns on a headband, and then attach feline-like ears right next to them? the character's race I'm trying to make a costume for has horns and feline-like ears, and these seem to be the closest type of horn to theirs

Yes, most certainly you would be able to do something like that. =]

Those are awesome. I have a pair of much smaller horns, although I didn't make them myself. These are twice as cool though.
