If you are the lady lifting her leg on the left side of the picture: You've got a doppelgΓ€nger in my hoimetown, a good friend of mine who said: "Astounding!", when I showed her the photo.

Where did steampunk come from, and how long has it been around? I just started noticing it a couple of months ago, maby even at the beginning of the year.
Oh and love your costumes they look nifty.

heh, thanks! Hmm.. The short top was a lucky Goodwill find, just had to take it in to fit me. I bought it before I even knew what steampunk was. Just knew I'd use it someday.
The pants were just normal canvas slacks that I altered into breeches and dyed. The corset I made with some leather I bought at a flea market and a pattern I made from a roll of paper. The boots were on sale at..erm..maybe Famous Footwear? They're Mudd brand anyway. And I made the monocle from bits I got at a fleamarket.
I guess this wouldn't help you much if you need a costume soon. I'm not too familiar with places that sell steam-punk type items.
I guess I'd recommend starting out with a basic design for a costume, then haunting thrift stores and flea markets. Flea markets can be treasure troves of steam-punk wear and equipment.
Years of pack-rat activity went into my costume, and I'm still not satisfied!

HAHA! Thats so awesome.
Did you make the clothes yourselves or did you have them made?
I'm in love with the steampunk style, but I'm not sure which venues to go through to get myself some garb, haha.
