i like the contrast of soft tones and intense reds, the combo works very well without being unsettling

In a nutshell I think this is a well composed and executed photograph. Good geometry. Nice saturation and contrast. To get a bit nit picky, I noticed how close the whites come to being blown but aren't, and how close the blacks are to being blocked but aren't. I'm quite impressed.

I'm curious, do you use your histogram much while shooting? I personally find it invaluable, especially shooting RAW.

While shooting, no, I only take around 2-3 photos testing the lighting and then don't check anything else during the photosession!

I always like the histogram though, even for portraits. Its just a bar graph so I leave it on and then just glance at it really quick and its helped me with keeping details right where I want them.
I was also wondering though, if you have heard of luminosity masks. You press ctrl-alt-~ (Windows) or opt-cmd-~ (Mac) and it selects the lightest areas. I dunno, maybe you use them, I just recently got turned on to them and love em!
