Description
It was when I was thinking about a theme for another story, about reincarnations and soul mates. What if it's true? What if we really are reincarnations of souls past lived? That would explain de ja vu's (memories of a life you've lived before), why we feel kinsmanship towards complete strangers, it should explain why nostalgia hits at random and inconvienceing times
If all that were true, then soul mates wouldn't be too hard to believe. Two souls bonded together throughout all of time. Although it sounds romantic, it really wouldn't be. That means that you have no choice really, with whom you'd fall in love with (although, thanks to your 'heart' you don't really have a choice anyway) What if your 'soul mate' were to be the one you were fated to never be together? What if you lived halfway across the world?
Argumentatively, if you were bound to someone, you could also be free couldn't you?
What if you found a way to untie yourself from someone? Would the rest of your life be lived alone, or would you find someone else? If we really are bound to our 'soul mate' that could mean that everyone has a 'someone' to whom their meant to be, and living alone for your own pleasure would just mean that you left someone alone for your selfish gain.
But, who wants to be 'bound'' to someone? What if that person was a sadistic, cruel person? No one would want o be kept by a person like that (that I know of) If that were the case, it would be smarted to sever the tie that you had with the person right? Because being 'bonded' or 'owned' means that that someone has that much power over you, then again, you have that much power over them as well.
I wonder if breaking the bond would hurt. Would that you could break your 'bond', would you feel it? Would it be a tangible 'snap'' and then pain, or the subtle, ghostly fingers of sanities undoing? Because if you cut a thread in a tapestry, that would unravel the entire picture, would you become undone because, the thread that connected you together was the fragile and thin string that held you together?
Back to my original thread (no pun intended), if you were fated to be with a homicidical person, would you sever the ties between you to get the much needed reprieve from that life, but, through your actions, unleash an 'unstable' person on your part of the world? Or would you bear it, and wait for your next life and see if you were dealt another hand? Because, there are other 'happy and comfortable' soul mates you wouldn't want to disturb, and Karma (which is the foundation of reincarnation) would frown on such a selfish act.
Would you have memories your past lives? Would that explain the moments of ’hazy recollections' that we feel when we're presented with something, anything that would, naturally stir memories, such as a smell, music or atmosphere. Would it be traumatic, or soothing? Would we be an echo of our past lives? Which would bring up de' ja vu, the memory of a past life already lived. Would it be a sign that we're on the right path, because it's something that we've done before, something familiar? Or is it a warning?
Of course none of the things I've said is possible, because reincarnation is just a belief, and it's not mine, however fanciful.
I prefer to think of ourselves as our own, with only one life to live. But that’s the beauty of having just one life to live. You live in the moment, and take every chance you have to enjoy every second of our fleeting, but beautiful life. If reincarnation was true, and we had countless lives to live, the value of life would be nothing. Chaos would be the norm because, "Hey! I've got another life to live anyway! Why worry about the consequences? “Which is why (my theory) I know it's not possible to be reincarnated, or to truly have someone you're bound to be with, but it's a romantic thought to think about none the less.
