Description

Another character for my Roseburg & Western, and one that I've been eager to add for a LOOONG time.

Bio: Greg is a Chesapeake & Ohio T1 class 2-10-4, built in 1930 by the Lima Locomotive Works in Lima, Ohio. He is the first in a class of 40 locomotives built for heavy freight and coal drag service on the C&O. Greg's class proved so successful that during World War 2, the Pennsylvania Railroad, limited by wartime restrictions, based their own 2-10-4(the J1) on the T1's blueprints, with a few Pennsy modifications. In the 1950s, like most other railroads in America, the C&O started phasing out steam locomotives in favor of diesels, and Greg and his siblings were sentenced to the scrapyard. Fortunately, a group of former C&O employees were determined to save at least one T1 class, and Greg just happened to not have been taken to the scrapyard just yet. So the men took Greg and hid him from the scrappers for as long as they could. Then one day, the ex-employees learned of a railroad down south in the state of Arkansas called the Roseburg & Western that rescued and restored steam engines and put them back to work. Seeing the perfect opportunity to give Greg a better life, the men contacted the R&W and the latter agreed to buy him at scrap value. Greg was then taken to the East Roseburg shops and restored to good as new. Today, Greg is the largest and strongest engine in the Roseburg & Western's fleet. He is most often seen on the mainline hauling heavy freight and coal drags, even those that previously required Jamie and Daniel to double-head. Greg has proven to be such an invaluable asset in the R&W's freight operation, especially with his amazing strength and expertise in freight.

Persona: Greg may appear intimidating to some engines(especially the smaller ones), but he's really a good-natured, easy-going engine with a heart of gold. He's not exactly the smartest engine out there, but he's not stupid either, especially when it comes to freight hauling. For example, he can quickly discern how much steam power to put out and when just by the looking at and/or the feeling the weight of his train, making him efficient in fuel and water usage, and giving him very high stamina compared to the other engines. He's even willing to share these secrets to any engine willing to listen. He's not exactly keen on passenger trains, as he's not used to being delicate all the time with his huge size and strength, and sometimes he worries that he'll still damage the passenger cars despite his best efforts. Despite his usual easy-going nature, he is also not afraid to stand up for the little guy, or anyone else he cares about, sometimes even going so far as threatening to fight them, which intimidates would-be opponents half the time; even Alvin respects him.

Voice Actor: Patrick Warburton

Whistle: Nathan 6-chime (think NKP 765 in the 80s/90s)

That’s nice. I’ve had some inspiration from your fictional railroad too.
