I really see now what you meant when you spoke about 'preparing the wood'... There's a soft 'silk effect' on this piece...
This redwood is certainly beautiful, you're right... Petals seems carved so lightly and delicately on the surface but in the same time, the flower stalks arise from this wooden piece with strength and vitality ! Wonderful !

A great deal of wood working is sanding, sanding,......oh yeah, then there's the sanding......ha ha.....I spend a lot of time on the piece before actually carving anything; this includes sanding and finishingΒ the back as well. I appreciate what you say, my Friend,...sanding is an art in itself.
