I think Puppetmon is somewhat "cute" with his desire to have friends to play with - even when he misunderstood that topic "play with friends" in the series...
While Piedmon is more like a trickster, chess player or even a showmaster. He likes big shows and tricky games and he was a formidable enemy in the series.
