i'm still using mobile site. but the fact that dA is not doing anything with their apps shows how slow they are to the trend... basically every site you'd go to daily has an app. dA does have one, but does nothing other than 'browse'. hence, my preference of using a 'browser' to do that.

You have to code it twice in that case because you can't use iOS8 apis if you are trying to also support iOS7 devices. Lots of conditionals in the code that might make it hard to maintain. All that to support 12% of iOS users especially when 9 is about to come out. Just doesn't seem worth it time/budget wise. Don't worry, you aren't missing anything. THe Mobile web version of DA is still lightyears better thant he app.
