This is definitely true. The only time you should use deviant is to refer to the users. DeviantArt is the name of this site. Deviants are the users. That's the way it's gonna stay forever. DeviantArt was, is, and always will be the name of the site, and deviants will always be users. The examples provided in this picture are great ones. It's exactly what Dan is trying to say. Always remember the real names. Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, MySpace, DeviantArt, you name it. Good job on this, Dan. Keep up the good work, dude. You're an amazing deviant and administrator.

Why refer to DeviantArt using the name that is really used to refer to the users?

It would simply be a powerful misrepresentation. Deviant means nothing apropos the site. It is a place holder in a name. If we are using english in a normative fashion there is nothing about one standard deviation of the art as a whole which represents deviancy or does not take part in the bulk of art. Sorry for taking the object of critique meta.

Most people Use acronyme for deviantat in my entourage, DA is easy to type and fun to say. Also for me deviant is the name of the members , isn't it ? we are the deviants. so it is not correct to call te website that.

other wise I tend to Say FB, i found linkedin aweful to pronouce, Youtube flows on the tongues easily, and my what ? I forgot

I differentiate between the two - dA and DA. The former being this, the latter being Dumbledore's Army. I'm still trying to decide if I liked the end of HP or not.

TrollGirl In reply to KristieConspiracy [2013-05-24 13:42:05 +0000 UTC]

I think it was a decent end, overall. Not sure what i think of the philosophical and convoluted thing with 'you have to die in order to kill'... but nobody's perfect, and Rowling is pretty close
What kind of ending have you wanted or expected?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

KristieConspiracy In reply to TrollGirl [2013-05-27 22:48:13 +0000 UTC]

I don't really know what I expected, I mean, I'm glad it all went back to Hogwarts and that the 'big 3' got a good ending. I'm a little unsure about killing off certain characters, like Tonks and Lupin. That just seemed too much like forcing Teddy into being a next-generation Harry, losing his parents and such. I'd have liked some clarification about what actually happened to Harry, Ron and Hermione in those 19 years between the battle and the epilogue, like whether they'd finished their education and what they'd actually gone on to do, job-wise. I get that the focus at the end was on Harry having a family, but it seemed a little too "American Dream", for lack of a better comparison.

TrollGirl In reply to KristieConspiracy [2013-05-28 18:48:24 +0000 UTC]

Lupin and Tonks dying sure hurt a lot but i think it was done to impress on the readers that war is hell for real.
Also i saw on Pottermore and other legit sources what happened to them after school.. look it up. I dont remember all the details, but Harry And Ron actually became aurors and of course Hermione went back to school to finish because cmon, no magic would stop her from that
Nothing wrong with a little dreams!

KristieConspiracy In reply to TrollGirl [2013-05-30 06:27:45 +0000 UTC]

Mm, I suppose you're right on that. Still rather harsh.
Oh, I see your point on that. Pottermore does have a use. xD

What about devART or the DASphere?

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

Pianocanival [2013-05-23 17:11:18 +0000 UTC]

Errrr ... Actually I do many of them every single day >.< In spanish is really common to say things like:

Agregame al face (Add me on face)
Acabo de subirlo al deviant (I just uploaded it to deviant)
Mira este video en el youtu (Look this video at youtu)

And you have to make abbreviations every now and then, you know? It's just way too long to say Deviantart every single time.

caminante0 [2013-05-23 17:11:05 +0000 UTC]

English speakers call it DA, because of your pronounciation.
But, for example if I translate DA to spanish the word would sound "dah". And that's just not right

Also we actually do use the "face" abbreviation all the time. Because of the pronunciation again.
Is hard sometimes to say long names in other languages, international companies should think on that.

juaana1 [2013-05-23 17:04:03 +0000 UTC]

i'm from Argentina, and here we use "face" as a short form for facebook, but we would never misunderstood "face" (part of the body) and face from facebook, mainly because we speak in Spanish and facebook is a foreign language word.

NHLoveDani [2013-05-23 14:17:42 +0000 UTC]

rofl I hear/read the abbreviation of facebook "Face" everywhere in Argentina. If people were more interested in Linkedin, they'd probably say "Linked" or "Link" hahaha.

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

archibaldart [2013-05-23 13:02:43 +0000 UTC]

well I always use DA.

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

Corax-x [2013-05-23 09:41:39 +0000 UTC]

Honestly there is no reason why they should "NEVER" do it. Cuz after reading the comments mainly the only people that refer to DA as "Deviant " are people who don't speak english. So in reality your kind of making a big deal out of something small.

Innocent-malice [2013-05-23 09:12:36 +0000 UTC]

I only see people using Da, though I think it may be because if you are on this site enough, you know a deviant is a user, and putting the art at the end makes it clear you are referring to the website as a whole.

xLuluHeartx [2013-05-23 09:00:42 +0000 UTC]

I call it deviant because Da would make no sense, since da means yes in my language, and deviantart is way too long

In spanish we actually Sai Deviant, and face

"ya subi aquel arte al deviant"

"dame tu deviant" "te agregare en el face"

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

Fairytale8 [2013-05-23 06:34:21 +0000 UTC]

Agreed! I never do. To tell the truth, this word for the site wouldn't come to my mind ever, because the word 'deviant' already means something, something we use every day... then if the site is 'deviant', what are the users called? it's not like telling us what we can say, it's like telling to use the words correctly.

Wow, so many of the comments on this over at "Face" () are from people freaking out. All angry "You can't tell me what to do!" kind of comments. Some kids need to take a chill pill

Ella0905 [2013-05-23 04:36:06 +0000 UTC]

Who abbreviates it to deviant? It's dA if you want to shorten it. Though for the people who are using a language other than English that do it, it makes some sense.

Singing-Wolf-12 [2013-05-23 04:26:24 +0000 UTC]

I usually call it dA but I do sometimes use deviant when I use my mother tongue, sorry xD Rather only when speaking though. And people here do say "face"

Daniel-Gleebits [2013-05-23 03:58:50 +0000 UTC]

DA doesn't occur to some people? Even devart is marginally better than "deviant". A deviant is a user, surely.
