As our tour guide was talking about some random uninteresting facts about the Stock Exchange, I looked around and was amazed at the lighting comming in from between the buildings.Related content

There's a feeling of - I don't know, anticipation, maybe. The buildings loom tall and take on a life of their own, while the street is almost (as if by contrast) lifeless. When I look at this, I picture the American Dream: I picture big business, tourism, money exchanging hands; I picture people, their relationship with the city (banker, doctor, lawyer, tourist, beggar, and etc). And my thought runs even deeper than that: I think about shapes, about light, about how the buildings manipulate the light, and vice versa. There's so much to be gleaned from a photo like this, and that in least in part explains why it has been faved so many times. And now once more.

the change in contrast is interesting in this picture, though i like the washy light to distinct black/white that occurs. also great focus and detail on the birds and bricks.
