well i think that you should insert a picture of the developers dressed like homeless people and replace donate with support elementary os. btw best os i ever used,so fast and beutiful.i really would see a tablet runing these,it would be epic.sorry for my english.

Hey, I apologize for this might sound like an angry rant, but why does almost all of your designs look like they are heavily inspired from OS X ? I am totally unaware about the context here, but I feel that it would be great if Element and other user interfaces that you design will get a different look than the contemporary Mac OS X cement look. As a solution, may I suggest looking into older user interfaces ? Like that of Mac OS 9 and then revamping it to meet the current requirements ? In any case, getting similar to OS X makes Element lose it's visual identity. No two persons are alike, so why should 2 OSes be ?

I had the misfortune of using MacOSX Lion only yesterday, elementaryOS has its own distinct look and feel, separate from MacOSX. I can think of 2 people that look and behave very much alike, but I love them both for their own individual quirks and personalities despite their similarities.

I agree but if eOS want to be a strong alternative to Mac OSX, it's usual to begin by inspiring of it.

Is it such a good idea to mimic interface elements like the buttons and entries on the website?

Why would it be a bad idea to have a consistent visual style?

I like that you guys take your website design seriously. I used to be quite into KDE 4 some time ago since GNOME 2 and the other options felt too old-school for me (I figured anti-aliased windows and menus were necessary, just to prove a point). I've definitely grown out of that now- eOS and the site make KDE's site look like a joke. It feels like they only had a few good designers for the icon theme and widget theme and left the rest to fate.
As they say, you can put a ring on a monkey, but it's still a monkey. Keep up the good work, it's certainly paying off.

You are fully able to put $0 for donation if you'd like.

Wouldn't a slider be more intuitive in that case?

+1 for the slider, some people might want to donate/pay (I saw quite an argument going around about this subject) a little bit more...

Having both payment and download in a single box makes it look like you have to pay to download, or at least that you need to fill the boxes (a la credit card verification) in order to download...

If you put $0 the boxes will probably be replaced with a nice message about how we can't put food on our tables >

Perhaps you could add little icons for Google Wallet, Paypal, and Amazon payments to the bottom of the form? It would probably be good to let people use that sort of payment system if they don't feel comfortable giving their credit card info out to "some random site."

DanRabbit In reply to CassidyJames [2012-03-19 23:33:42 +0000 UTC]
Yea, I mean obviously we have to figure out what payment options that we're going to support and then redesign appropriately.

Can you find something for us Europeans? I not sure about the other country's but at least where I live NOBODY uses a credit card. It would make it so much easier if I could donate by bank or iDeal.
( totally unrelated and not the place; I know. But I couldn't help myself. )

You don't have debit cards?
Don't worry, we'll have to figure out what kind of payment methods we can support and then the design will be altered to reflect that.

This topic is related to a localization of the homepage, in France the credit card is often used but not in every country like Mistron said.

It depend of the country, in France we often use our credit card but not in some country, this topic is related of the localization of the website. With translation we need specific option for some country (currency, payment option etc...)

I think the 'OS Version' part should be on the left and the 'Donation' on the right.
Also, in the main page, I feel you should show a screenshot of the desktop by itself rather than the picture of the tablet because elementary does not make the hardware like Apple.
That's just my little opinion and suggestion but the general design is really nice and polished!
Well done

Looks very nice.
You should show an image like the one in humble bundle when you give only a penny (feed a developer; showing a bum with a computer). Totally made me donate at least a dollar.
Oh and on a side note: I made a mockup about your Audience mockup and would love your comment about it.
