Description
Title speaks for itself I guess the killer Rabbit puppet from a local production of Monty Python's SPAMALOT A.K.A quest for the holy Grail in the movie version. This was 1 of 3 puppets I made for the show it's something fast simple and different so thought I'd throw it in the galley, the other 2 puppets were a burnt dying rabbit for the death scene and then a fluffy cute hopping version for before he turns into the angry killer that bites the head off the actor.
originally sculpted out of clay quickly and molded then cast in flex foam V painted in vinyl then furred.
there was a short time and a long list of other props so this would be under speedy build but was still kind of fun and I got a lot of creative freedom with the life like cartoon feel to the production.

If it's for sale, I'm very interested. Amazing job as always!

And what would your price be to recreate another, sir?

haven't gave it much thought had the original in cost with a whole sale of props and had a ton of other things on my mind I guess.

Ah, so would you consider making reproductions of the bunny with the original mold in the future? I think that'd be a great idea for nearer to halloween when horror stuff comes high in demand, I'd definitely buy one (a black one so that it looks like the Black Rabbit of Inle in Watership Down).

Well it crossed my mind but I need to sculpt cast able legs for him the 3 I originally did were fast sculpted foam ones be a lot nicer to have better easier ones I was in a rush cause of the deadline building puppet hand shaped plug and mother molds didn't leave much time on his limbs but I though they were better then expected non the less.
Black rabbit can't say I've seen a black killer rabbit before.

I can imagine that, slush-casting stuff in one piece is harder than doing it in halves like you would a mask with a long open mouth.
Well in case you've not read or watched Watership Down, the black rabbit's not a real killer rabbit, it's basically the rabbit version of the Grim Reaper.

I seen pics few versions other people did on Google some with a rabbit skull head black wings or a shadow creature with red glowing eyes.
Oh no I never slash cast it's a good way to make your props shrink or warp up the material tends to pull away from the mold and gravity pulling and shit I prefer double molds or casting over a plug much better less problems... to explain it better, well I made a fake arm mold with wood that was in a open mouth position vacuum formed so it was hollow plastic shelles 2 so easy to slip later in then made a board to mount it on sculpted the rabbit out of clay over it then molded it then while the rabbit was in the main mold turned it over drilled out the center of the board ran a inch wide wood dowel in the hollow plug from the bottom then drilled 4 more holes round that shot it full of flex foam so after I demolded it all and opened the plastic shells the rabbit was sculpted over I had a flexible hand shape that fused to the board coated that with some silicone as a nonstick skin drilled a few pour holes around the arm plug and now just put the mother mold over that and pour flex foam or a liquid rabbit in and bam you got a killer rabbit with a hollow core just design for a arm to operate with. Might be longer produces then a slush cast but this is way more effective if you want good successful results IMHO.

Yeah...this is where my brain goes kaput. The vacuuming and double-moulding methods for latex always stump me, I just use the simple 'Halloween mask' method; make mould out of modroc/plaster then pour the latex liquid in or brush it in. I don't know the better method very well and tutorials without photographs or at least drawn diagrams are hard to follow for me.
Yeah Watership Down characters are very popular among commissioned rabbit toys and costumes, especially Bigwig (my favourite one) and the Black Rabbit. It just a very...interestingly gory and world-war inspired story (and you wouldn't expect gore and near Nazi-themes in a serious story about rabbits).

Well it's hard to follow for most people I can't think of all the times I try to explain a process then try to reexplain in a simpler form and just have give up I mean shit it makes perfect sense in my head but I got a nack for complex betails.
Must be a cartoon or foriegn film can't say I've heard anything till you mentioned it only medaforical rabbit I know of outside Alice is Frank from Donni Darko pretty cult classic well know mask.

People find tutorials easier when they can actually see what's going on, not just read it (there are some people who don't even know what latex is).
It's a british cartoon drawn realistically based on a novel, the song 'Bright eyes' was originally written for Watership Down and that's why it's such a pun to use that song with anything rabbit-related.

Yeah but they aren't easy to make and I'm lazy at computers as it is and never been good at documenting the whole process unless forced to mostly by a client expecting WIP shots kind of mandatory then.
Ah I see we might not of had it release in the states or if it did straight to video or selective independent showing in selective locations.
Much like City of the lost Children or Japanese anime's witch only 3 have ever main streamed the theaters mostly the ones animated here like Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust very surprised to find out it was animated in the states and that the directors flew down from Japan for the production.

I see, then do you know any tutorials other people have made? I really want to make my latex products more professionally.
Watership Down was released in the 70s, then a kid-friendly TV series version of it released in 1999, so it's not new.

sure I'll do something with them in the future don't know when I'll get the nerve to do any really mass production or reserves just filling commission slots with custom one offs that take up most of the time some hardly stocking any items like this atm.

lol true but a werewolf with a pet psycho bunny would make a great comic relief. XD
Five years work on that mask, truly worth it; and now I have a mould and know where to get all my gear, I can make them in a matter of months. ^^
The best format for a video on DA is surprisingly WMV, Quicktime/mp4 takes ages while AVIs just won't upload at all. WMV however uploads within just an hour.

guessing there's a lot of restrictions unlike YouTube content wise.
well I'd say the bunny was more or less a cartoon character everything in the scene play was cartoon inspired goofy knight helmets a catapulting cow smashes a guy and dead fish club fights, many other things in the show so I guess if that's going to work in your werewolf project I don't know.

It.s suppose to be scary but unrealistic it could have been way more terrifying but I was leaning towards monsters like gremlins or critters scary movies with comedy mix how I saw the raddit for this production.

Gremlins and Critters were scary back in the day when they were released, but now they're just laughable.
