Description
Hey, a picture I cleaned up past the sketch phase and still liked, it's been a while. I tried experimenting to see if I'd like my lineart better if I used a less smooth brush. I think using a textured brush is a good idea, although maybe a less fuzzy brush. This is my character, Herald, from my superhero setting. He's got super speed, and delivers mail. This is one of the characters I spent the longest time just designing, because I decided to look into what you're supposed to wear for parkour because I figured it made sense for the character. And then I looked into what you're supposed to wear when riding a motorcycle, because I figured he was running that fast so I should look into that. And what do you know, they basically want opposite things. For parkour you want soft and flexible for maximum mobility and balance, while for motorcycles you want thick and sturdy for protection. At least that's what I got from an hour or so of googling. And then after trying to balance these opposite paradigms to get the shape of the outfit, I had to figure out colors. And I struggled.
After spending hours on what I thought would be a quick, fun character doodle, I thought it'd be a shame never to draw the character again. So I finally got around to drawing a proper illustration, and it took half the time of the original character sketch.
