Description
Normally I don't post adult-oriented works on DeviantArt, but this work turned out particularly good. It is a fantasy scene of an Amazon-like warrior with her captive slave. It is purely fantasy and one has to dismiss some incongruities such as such a warrior having a slave with chains and a collar. When the first Europeans explored the Amazon region, they returned with stories of a tribe of warrior woman. These explorers at first thought that this tribe of warrior woman might be the mythic "Amazonian" warriors, and so the region was named the Amazon. The tribe of female warriors was never encountered again in further expeditions to the region, but the name stuck. These warrior woman were described as being 'red haired' and fierce fighters. Such an illustration might have seemed realistic to the early Europeans. Today, modern archeologist believe that the 'women warriors' encountered in the Amazon might have been a male warriors who would often use clay and mud in their long hair that gives a reddish hue. However, the first explorers were very emphatic that these warriors were women, and it leaves one to wonder if such a tribe did at one time exist.Recent DNA evidence shows a genetic link between a nine-year-old girl named Meiramgul who is a blond child of the mountains of western Mongolia being linked genetically to a recently discovered burial of a woman believed to be an Amazon warrior. No evidence of a female warrior tribe has been discovered in the America. [link]

Most people don't realize that there were two mythological groups of Amazonian warrior women. The first group, and most well known were documented by Greek historians were described as being a race of ferocious warrior women. Recent DNA and archeological evidence seems to indicate that this group of women may have really existed, and their ancestors have been traced to a small group of decedents of a nomadic tribe that live in the mountains of western Mongolia. A second, lessor known group is based upon rumors of ferocious female warriors seen by a single group of early explorers in the Amazonian region. Believing they had found a tribe of the mythic warriors mentioned by the Greeks, the region was given the name the Amazon. This painting depicts the second group... though these Amazonian warriors according to current archeological and historical evidence do not appear to have actually existed.
