I was going through some very old artwork of mine, and I came across this really bad drawing I had done in High School. The great thing about modern technology is that no matter how bad a picture is... as long as the fundamental idea is good, you can always fix it up later. So, I scanned in the picture and decided I would fix it up in photoshop. The original is in my scrapbook at darkrubymoon.deviantart.com/ar… (Actually, the real original was in color pencil, but it looked better in black and white).

The bad thing about photoshop correcting artwork is that you can forever keep going back to fix the picture up. Almost no one draws perfect anatomy, and so there is the temptation to forever fix the same picture with the intent of turning it into a photograph. The second issue is that virtually nothing remains of the original artwork. While this is clearly better than my original, something about photoshop zaps out some of the artistic feel of a picture making everything look a bit plastic. Once you correct one fault, you start to see other faults and soon you have an entirely different picture.

For this picture, rather than drawing by hand each brick, I used a brick texture. One has to be insane to hand draw bricks when you can click a button to do so. I was tempted to use a graffiti generator for the text, but opted to hand draw it instead. I then layered the much corrected bike and girl over the background.

The motorcycle does not really exist... it came out of my imagination while still a high-school kid.
