Description
This is the plasma rifle I made for my Fallout 3 outfit. The base is a Nerf gun and most of the various parts are either from garage sales or a hardware store. It even makes noise if you pull the trigger, but we have to work on that a bit more before it works quite right.Here's a more dramatic view.

never liked the design of the Fallout 3 Plasma weapons, I think they look far to steampunkish & fragile. the original ones from fallout 2 & it's variants were much better.

The Recon re-configurable Nerf rifle is my absolute favorite and you have succeeded in tripling its awesomeness factor. Well done mate

I'm glad you like it! The best way I've found to make things so far is to find the closest real world part and mod it. I'm not quite up to the whole "sculpting my own stuff out of plastic and whatnot" stage.

We tried using some glow-in-the-dark paint (unfortunately not as cool as it sounds) and we also considered using glow sticks. I'd definitely want it to glow next time we go out!

I'm really glad you liked it! I think I'm still a little amazed that I found all the right parts and it all came together so well. I'm sure your stuff doesn't look like garbage. If push comes to shove, throw a little glitter on it. That'll distract anyone.

Gotta love the Plasma Rifles. "Slow as a mule but with a kick to match." The only thing I don't like from a tactical point of view is the location of the Micro-fusion Cell. In the location it's in it is totally exposed and can be a vulnerable spot to a good shot or a stray bullet, it also leave it vulnerable to environmental hazards.
It should have a battery port like the Laser Pistol. Not only would having it on one side of the weapon protect it from getting hit from the opposite direction, but the metal plating of the battery port would also offer some protection.

I had never thought about where the MF Cell was, but now that you pointed it out, it's definitely a glaring weakness. That could really put a Plasma Rifle out of commission. Also, it's just not structurally sound there since banging the gun against anything will probably dent the carrier it's in, if it's anything like the gun I made.

Yeah not only that but sense it's a Micro-FUSION Cell, a small nuclear device, it could...explode if hit...meaning bad times for the Lone Wanderer or Courier 6.

Thanks! The plasma rifle was probably the most fun thing to do. I used a Nerf N-Strike Recon CS-6 Dart Blaster . We were originally going to have it fire the darts, but that was abandoned after some of the mods we did.

Thanks! I can't even begin to describe the horrible amount of my life that I've put into Fallout 3. I've only restarted the game 3 or 4 times, and that was interrupted by New Vegas...
This also consumed a lot of my summer and fall, which is probably only more of a testament to my obsession.

I completely understand the apocalypse fetish, since I have it as well. I think it was Fallout 3 and a love of broken buildings that really got me into it, but now I look for cool apocalyptic stuff everywhere.
Well, to do a paladin armor and a minigun would probably be a cake walk, I'll give myself a few years before I attempt it! However, I've seen it done and it was super awesome.
