I've been to Africa twice and Madagascar as well, last trip. Both adventures were about 2 months long, so a good time to wander and enjoy it without rushing about. It is definitely worth it if you can do it, so much to see and do. It's a little chaotic in the center and up to the northwest, but if you check what is going on, you're usually pretty ok.

I would love to go to Madagascar someday to. I get why you take 2 months. I was in Sri Lanka for 14 days. to much stress, not enough time to wander and see all the beauty.Β No way near enough!Β It is a dream of mine to travel more. Maybe someday I get the chance

We hired a local guide through a tour company in Antananarivo before we arrived, booked it from Australia and communicated via email with the Rep, (who we met after we met the driver) We had the guide and the driver meet us at the airport, as any foreigner that just arrives is usually swamped by locals wanting a fare to take you to a hotel, etc. This is Bernard (his english name, his actual name was a lot more complex)

Guides make life and traveling much more enjoyable and workable at times, as they speak the language and have pretty solid local knowledge too, would definitely recommend it, if possible

That sounds like a really good and time saving advice. Thank you I really appreciate all the tips and help I can get with these things. I will definitely consider a guide for my next trip

Yeah, it can make life a little easier and the whole process is handled very professionally, we had a great time there and a lot of that was certainly because of this. In some areas it is fine to travel about by yourself, but in other places, where the dialects may be varied or that tourists don't frequently go to, it can be a little challenging if just driving around by yourself
