Weder Ilja noch Konstantin wussten, dass sie beide beim selben Event angemeldet waren.
Ilja war auf Freundschaftsbesuch, für Konstantin war die Anreise nicht weit. Beide sahen sich aber erst zum Rennen.
Der blinde Zorn zumindest war verraucht - Kirills Brief hatte viel dazu beigetragen. Aber beide wussten nicht recht, wie sie miteinander umgehen sollten. An der Startlinie meideten sie sich, Konstantin hatte eh vor, Ilja so schnell wie möglich abzuhängen, um das Rennen anzuführen.
Ilja hatte denselben Plan.
Beide setzten sich schon früh an die Spitze und die Hengste liefen gleichmäßig Kopf an Kopf, was das Schweigen zwischen den beiden noch intensivierte. Die Anspannung in Konstantin wuchs so weit, dass er, um nicht völlig unkonzentriert das Rennen zu laufen, für den Moment zumindest, alles vergaß. Es ging um die Pferde, um den Strand und seinen Schlick, der laut schmatzend jeden Gallopsprung begleitete, um das Schreien der Möwen und um den Wind in den Haaren. Es ging um das, was das Leben auf TD ausmachte, es ging um sein Glück.
Er schielte zu Ilja, der wohl genau dasselbe zu denken schien - weit vorgebeugt und mit lockerem Zügel spornte er seinen Hengst weiter an, sein Gesicht strahlte, trotz der Schlammspritzer.
Kurz vor der Ziellinie beugte er sich aus dem Sattel und griff nach einer aufflatternden Möwe, die er um Haaresbreite verfehlte.
Als sie Kopf an Kopf durchs Ziel preschten, schrien sie beide.
Vor Glück. Vor Erleichterung. Vor Freude.

Neither Ilja nor Konstantin knew that they would participate in the same event.
Ilja was visiting the PCS crew as friends, for Konstantin it wasn't far away since he still lived on MFS. Both saw each other at the starting line.
The first anger in Konstantin was gone and Kirill's letter had much to do with it. But still both didn't knew how to handle each other. They avoided each other at the starting line and Konstantin had the plan to outdistance Ilja and to lead the race from the beginning.
Ilja had the same plan.
Both forged ahead from the beginning of the race and both stallions ran head to head, the silence between them intensified till the point on which Konstantin had to let it go for the sake of the race and his inner piece. It wasn't about his anger - it was about the horses, the beach and its mud which smacked with every step of the hooves, the screaming seagulls and the wind in the hair. It was about those things which were essential for the life on Tihij Don, it was about his happiness.
He glanzed to Ilja who must have thought the same - he leaned wide forward, the reins loose and spurred his stallion to run faster - his face gleamed of joy despite the splashes of mud in his face.
Short before the finish line he leaned forward and reached for a fluttering seagull but he missed it by inches. As they passed the finish line head to head, both of them screamed.
Because of hapiness. Because of relief. Because of joy.
