Description
She is the biggest eater in the army. Her birthday is March 29th.
Please excuse the horrible human art ._.; I'm trying, but it's not easy. Going to add the other image + dragon when I can/fix her face holy hell @.@.
Name: Maven
- Nickname: Maev
Gender/Sex: Cis Female ||: Female
Age: 48
Build: A fit, middle-aged woman with a confident gait and winning smile. With less accentuated feminine features, she is often mistaken for a man when clad in armor.
- Height: 5'11" ||: 180 cm
- Weight: 128 lbs ||: 58 kg
- Family: Percival (father) ||: Guinevere (mother) ||: Arthur "Art" (younger brother)
- Mount Name: Firebrand ||: Brandy
Abilities: (Not in-game skills, just what your character can do.)
- Axe-Wielding ||: Maven has trained practically since birth to handle an axe, to the point where it has become an extension of her being. She is able to wield them as throwing projectiles from the back of her Wyvern, though she is just as effective with them in close-combat, if not more-so.
- Sign Language ||: As a Wyvern Rider Maven saw it necessary to learn multiple forms of communication with Firebrand. Able to easily synchronize when mounted via body motions, she adapted these into smaller, more subtle signals to be utilized on foot.
- Voracious Appetite ||: Though not quite an actual ability so much as impressive enough to be considered one, Maven is well-known for her insatiable hunger. Between herself and Brandy they could consume a whole army's worth of campaign rations within a day.
Total: 25 Points
Personality: (Must have at least 3 positive and negative traits with one line to detail on each.)
- Fearless ||: From the beginning of her career as a Noctilian soldier, Maven showed a complete absence of fear in combat. Whether this was due to her inherent violence in battle or a lack of caring, she would sooner charge an enemy blind than wait for the first strike.
- Lively ||: Enthusiastic and engaging, she's always full of energy and vibrant with life. As one of the older members of the army, Maven believes strongly that she can still keep up with the 'kids', proving this with her relentless teasing and motherly concern.
- Dependable ||: While not the most obedient of subordinates, Maev will always come through for those who need her. She is fueled, not by a need for validation, but because she wants to be of use to her comrades.
- Private ||: Possibly due to the substantial age gap between herself and a majority of her army fellows, Maven tends to keep her past secret. Though she won't outright reject divulging it, she figures the tales of her exploits to be more interesting than her origins.
- Ambitious ||: Like many of Noctil's loyal subjects, Maev wishes to bring Soleil to its knees. She has no personal vendetta against their people however, and hopes that once General Halfblood breaks through the physical walls separating them that they can begin to repair the bridge between the two.
- Violent ||: Despite her desire for eventual peace war is war, and she shows no mercy to enemies. Maven goes for the killing blow whenever possible; she won't concede to taking prisoners unless ordered to.
- Domineering ||: Her presence and aura are strong, often over-bearing. Maev's affection can be oppressive as she tends to go full-force with everything she does; most notably she will doggedly argue against allowing novices in the field before she thinks they're ready.
- Sensitive ||: She may seem thick-skinned due to her military background and general personality, but Maven's ego is delicate. If her attention is rejected, she will be hurt; it is much easier to wound her emotionally than physically.
- Naive ||: Due to her straight-forward nature, it's difficult for Maev to understand the full ramifications of war. Saying that she'll leave the thinking to the smart ones, she's convinced herself everything can be solved if she tries hard enough.
- Chapter 1 ||: Soldier
A warrior by lineage and choice, Maven was born into an illustrious family tree of Noctil's heroes. Her father had lived and died in the effort to defeat Soleil, as her mother, Guinevere, never let her forget. She was an adventurous child, always getting into trouble playing knights with her friends. Her upbringing was strict, but loving; never was she forced to be something she wasn't. Given training in combat alongside lessons in history and strategy, Maev aspired to become a celebrated soldier; she strove to become a hero just like those who came before her.
The snippets she remembers of her father, Percival, are far and foggy. She imagined he was a large man, with a rumbling laugh who loved her more than his own life. One of the premier Wyvern Lords, he served on vanguard force against Soleil's encroaching army.
Back then she didn't go by Maven; the name she was raised with she's long since discarded. It wasn't because of any qualms against the name itself, but simply because she felt it didn't suit her. It took her until adulthood when matriarchy of the family was relinquished to her for her to finally decide on a more fitting name.
Though she attempted to wield a sword at first, she was quite inept at it; her preference was cutting and throwing motions, much unlike the precise parries which made blades effective. Lacking the patience for such mind games, her mentor decided to introduce his pupil to axes, the weapon her father was famed for. Taking particularly to the use of a double axe, Maven initially learned to fight against straw and wood dummies. Later she sparred against her father's old soldier buddies when they'd visit to pay their respects.
Few know, but Maev once had a younger brother; Arthur, or "Art" as he was lovingly referred to, was a sickly boy suffering from a weak immune system. His longing to be like their father helped fuel Maven's resolve. She'd often proclaim that she would 'be enough knight for the both of them', showing off what she learned to him whenever possible. Tragically he never got the chance to see her succeed; he passed away during a particularly brutal winter, unable to weather the illnesses it brought. Though she still mourns her brother's loss she chooses not to let their shared dream die along with him, and believes that Art watches over and protects her.
- Chapter 2 ||: Dragon
It was when her training became serious that she was introduced to her father's Wyvern, Firebrand. The dragon fallen into depression after Percival's death; the man had raised him, and they fought together. Often Percival found himself spending more time with his dragon companion than he did with his own family. His wife had forbidden him from bringing his work home, so Firebrand had never met Maven before when she approached him to ask for help. She wanted to fight Soleil with the Wyvern her father had prized and loved like a brother, telling him as much. The dragon wanted revenge for the death of his friend, and so he agreed to support her until his dying breath.
Maven took quickly to him, both as a friend and a mount. The dragon was patient with her, as if he sensed the bond between the girl and his departed master. Though Guinevere was tentative about allowing her daughter in the field, she was reassured by Firebrand's presence alongside her; he'd protected her husband for years after all, and that man had been just as much a handful as his daughter.
At her mother's insistence, Maev took up the lance for the sake of combat versatility. She wanted to arm her daughter with every possible defense if she was going to go off into the field of battle. Guinevere herself was no warrior, this she knew, but she'd been surrounded by such people all her life, and she'd seen how their lives ended; they died heroes, but they died alone. If she could help it, she didn't want to live long enough to receive her daughter's uniform.
- Chapter 3 ||: Promise
Eventually, Guinevere's wish would be granted. Maven volunteered to serve Noctil, and was enlisted alongside Firebrand. As a single trainee amidst a flight of Wyvern Riders, she fought to distinguish herself; it was rough going at first because she'd never fought someone her age before, but learning from her comrades shaped her into an effective asset for the army.
A select few from her squadron were chosen for a campaign invasion when they were considered battle-ready. Maev was both enthused and nervous for one of the first times in her life. Her dedication to becoming a knight was so all-encompassing that she hadn't attempted to contact home for years or even read any letters sent to her. She may have been callous in ignoring her mother for so long, but she thought her mother would understand her feelings, that she would always be there for when Maven returned a hero.
Much to her chagrin, the role of the chosen Wyvern Riders didn't involve a lick of planned combat throughout the entire journey. They were scout troops only, ordered to retreat if contact was made. Maev put up with this as long as she could, but soon enough her desire for battle outweighed her sensibility. Before the final breach was made she decided to dismount and join the infantry for a decisive piercing maneuver. What she didn't know was how differently the infantry operated from the riders; she ended up lost in a sea of grappling soldiers, and had to be pulled out by Firebrand. When she returned to the base she was given a stern lecture, and would've been dishonorably discharged if not for an urgent letter arriving which announced that Guinevere had passed away. The cause was unknown. At the bottom of the letter was a message from Maven's mother, a contract with a line for her signature. She signed it immediately; a promise between them that once Soleil was in their hands she would return home, and live the rest of her life in peace.
Extras: (optional)
- Though her family owns a sprawling estate with a magnificent mansion, Maven would rather sleep in the stables with Firebrand. Her remaining relatives populate the property while she's away.
- Despite her willingness to eat almost anything, she's not too fond of sweet foods.
- Brandy can breathe fire when fed wort plants, specifically deadly nightshade, as his stomach burns the toxins.
- She secretly wishes she could try riding a pegasus, but doesn't because it would make Firebrand jealous.
- Her favorite animal is the dragon, but she's also fond of squirrels.
- Though she can't sing for the life of her, she appeciates and even envies those who can.
- Her hobbies include: eating, fighting, sleeping in that order.
- As she never had any practice as a child, her lack of experience in cooking and general housekeeping clashes with her maternal instincts. She has shown interest in learning, but lacks the time.
- Despite an inability to cook conventionally, Maev is effective at roasting any kind of meat she can get her hands on via campfire or dragon-breath.
- She supposedly had a child at some point, though even she doesn't know their whereabouts now.
