Honestly, any camera is a good camera to start with. Head down to your local shop, and talk to them about what it is that you want to do. Decide your price range, and go from there. Spend as much time as you can with your camera afterwards, and you will soon see if photography is for you or not. That's when you really start to learn, and learn and learn.

Canon is always a sure thing. My personal favorite is Olympus, however my first camera was a Sony. Actually come to think of it, my Sony was a wonderful starter camera for me. Ok there we go, my two recomendations are Sony and Olympus

sony cybershot DSC-H2 was my first, but I think it is up to a H7 or so now. That is a great camera. My SLR is an Olympus, pretty expensive for a first camera, I don't know any Olympus models for more basic cameras though.

Yeah, I added a colour filter. In all honestly the original shot provided amazing colors, but the filter just added so much more.
