Description
Spherical mapping scenes for backdrops and including 2d faces - by David BrinnenThis tutorial features the Spherical Mapper, a lens taken from a product of the same name made by Horo and myself.
A good knowledge of Bryce is recommended before tackling this tutorial, because while the process described is not technically demanding, it is quite involved. The aim is to generate a low resolution spherical map of an entire environment (scene) and combine that with a captured 2d face. So that for bits of the backdrop that can be seen directly by the camera there is high resolution backdrop and for area's that are only seen through reflection a low resolution spherical map will suffice. This approach will save render time and memory.
It could also be easily translated for using Bryce scenes as backdrops in DS - by exporting the geometries and reapplying the maps (use the DS bridge for geometry conversion not image map conversion).
Some additional text is included in the video, you may have to pause the video to read it.
Better viewed in HD - some of the controls in Bryce are quite fiddly and small.
