Description Another special effect tutorial... this one somewhat advanced, because it is so fiddly. I chose altitude filtering, as opposed to taking the approach used in the lighthouse rays tutorial (which would have been simpler) but that's been done, so here's another way.

Streaming light or "God rays" effect - a 25 minute tutorial by David Brinnen

A Bryce 7.1 Pro tutorial aimed at people who are well versed in Bryce and wish to expand their skills. The tutorial covers the addition of a streaming light effect to one of the example scenes I provided with Bryce 7 Pro and because this effect is heavily dependant on use of the DTE (Deep Texture Editor) I have deemed it to be an "advanced" topic. By and large the process more fiddly than it is difficult - which is why the video goes on so. Never the less, it is fairly fast paced, because the aim was to complete the scene in fifteen minutes (but it took longer). Some additional text is included in the video, you may have to pause the video to read it.

Better viewed in HD - some of the controls in Bryce are quite fiddly and small.

But tricky... as noted. It would be possible to recreate this effect, as noted, using other easier methods, but this is one way of doing it that also incorporates some "learning" with respect to the fiddly way altitude filters work (which are hard to grasp but very useful).

You are welcome. Feel free to make further suggestions for tutorials. Otherwise I'll just drift into increasingly obscure topics.

David, is there any good tutorials on doing volumetric fire or fire in general. I have seen the one that you made about the hot coals etc. But if I wanted to draw flames coming off a building, or a flamethrower etc?

Yes. That is the kind of thing. Thank you. Fire seems like one of the most difficult things to get right for me...I always seem to have to post render it in when I want it. This video helps. Thanks again.
