Description
Bryce5.5 Here the model (componets made in wings3D) was rendered in a matt red material and lit with a light dome (obtained from Beanzvision's now evapourated website) took about 140 plus hours of processor time - so about a week then.Related content

Oh thank you! Well, it was the DAZ site that got me to sign up to dA in a roundabout fashion. They were running a competition via dA and in order to enter you needed to make an account. So that's what I did and kinda just kept wandering back to take a look at what was going on and seeing a startling variety of idea's floating about... just well, natural curiosity took over. And there are one or two Bryce artists here, which is nice, most people are happy to share ideas and the system notifies you when you've got messages and such which is very good for me because I have a lazy short term memory. Horo and I are working on another tutoral even now, really they just come out of the images we make, I like to find simple solutions because I'm forever working up against the limiations of my hardware so we figure these make good tuts, because you get (I hope) good results for less effort in.

well, I'm glad your here! I always see these really awesome renders in the DAZ monthly gallery, and most of the time its you! I found your website thru that, and I think I've used a few of your tuts. Whats your new tut about? I'll definitely check that out. I love your stuff.

Presently I'm employed doing a long series of pieces for an as yet unreveiled project, as a result of this I've been pushed into areas where I would not normally have wandered under my own steam. Namely complex interiors, so the tut is a "how to" manufacture a relitavely complicated shell of a building for display in full 360 panoramic with the intention of having got the bit of making the fabric of the building out of the way, fleshing out the interior elements of the scene should be relitavely easy. From doing quite a number of these images I have learned that strong geometries are very important to a scene and details secondary. So that's the tut... and there is another new one too... about doing panoramic cave images too added yesterday.

I don't doubt that it would be possible to draw stuff like this with a pencil, a very soft dark pencil, but the ammount of effort involved would be many times greater than that involved in setting up the render software - the limbs themselves were manufactured in Wings3D - which if I didn't say, is a free subdivision modler! So if you wanted to have a play, [link] is the place to visit.

Thank you. The springs are a "primitive" of Wings3D... they would have been pretty tortuous to make in bryce!

A week to render? OMG! Well kudos to you, I have to figure out the advance settings in Bryce not to mention the fact that I loose my patience with Wings3D.... Nice one indeed...

Oh you should not worry too much about sqid domination, I mean they are sort of confused and bumbling and clueless... oh disreguard that last statement. The sqid are EVIL and should be FEARED. Quake in fear human...please?

I can see that you're up for the "many legs" thingy this month
Hmm... (Looks at it again) you're not David! I think you're possessed by a crab-looking alien and this alien is the one making this "many legs" thingy in your deviation! Tell me the truth David, I'll call MIB for yah! (Laughs)
Sometimes I get the inspiration of making "many legs" thingy too... Hmmm, maybe this August, I kinda like the idea (maybe its crabby month, better check the wet market) X_X
Nothing personal above, just making things happy
Anyway, great job!

For this reason I backup continaully... every .br5 gets duplicated in two other places and finally two other DVD's... a bit neurotic I know, but I've lost data before so I'm extra careful now!

Thank you. If you take a look in my favourites there's a War of the Worlds style of walker in some smoke - you might like to take a look at, it's not a close match to the album cover art as yours is but the DOF effects in the volume smoke envionment is really very good indeed.

I don't believe so. It's his own creation possibly... I just was impressed with the quality of the render and the use of DOF with volumetric smoke - for a first render that's very ambitious!

Man this is soooooo cool, your on a role here dave! What happened to MkII or MkIII, you skipped straight from 1 to 4. The first thing I thought when i saw this was actually picking it up in a one handed motion, so you succeeded there. having a higher camera angle will help portray the object as being small, coz right now it feels like the viewer is looking up at it. I like the details on the legs, having springs and stuff that people recognize helps add reality to the insect droid too.

MkII and MkIII are done and sat on my hard drive, I generally produce a few varitions on a theme but I like to save some for my website and besides, I don't want my dA gallery to end up looking too samey. I'm pleased you like it. I did consider a higher camera angle but it obscured too much of the detail underneath - but having said that, I could always flip it onto it's back... Might try that later... Thanks!
